Game changer for live players?

OK, so maybe “game changer” is now a worn out forum joke but I find AUM MidiMixer to be a handy tool for setting up my live tunes. If you’ve looked at Camelot Pro, Mainstage, and others but prefer AUM as your home base, check this app out. It’s true that I could do what MidiMixer does with other existing tools but the snapshots feature decreases the amount of setup time considerably. And saving time is a... game changer!

  • @lukesleepwalker This is exactly how I pictured using AUM MidiMixer.. the power of the scenes is huge.. thanks for sharing this setup.. 👍
    Q: Is there no feedback on the UI showing what scene you’re actually on? When you switched scenes I couldn’t tell which one you were in.. maybe I just couldn’t see it on my small iPad screen.. 🤷‍♂️

    Cool, glad it was helpful. I suppose this could be a tool that folks who are jamming live at home could use, too. I'm going to share the links to all the MIDI tools I used in the video when I'm at my laptop later.

    Good call on the scene UI: as far as I can tell it doesn't give you a visual indicator but I agree that it could be super helpful. If you watch the video carefully you'll see that the first C3 key I hit doesn't change the scene. That's because it was loading in Scene 1 again--but without the visual confirmation I was left to assume that it was the case until I hit C3 key again and saw it move to Scene 2 fader positions.

    I'll drop a note to Paul about the visual cue; I want to ask for more than 8 scenes anyway. :wink:

  • @lukesleepwalker 😎 Yeah, I think 8 scenes is a bit limited.. knowing Paul, this will be added tomorrow if it’s asked for today.. 😁

    Yeah - 8 would be a minimum number for almost anyone. There’s hardly any wiggle room at all meaning compromises will be required to be made. Mind you 8 is better than none 😀

  • Very nice! I don't have Midi mix yet but looks like it's on my list. I'm thinking you could convert the channel from 1 to 16 with Mozaic too? I don't have that midi app.

    mfxStrip (or mfxConvert) would be simpler simpler and less expensive for something like this. No scripting needed.

  • Right. I meant it the other way around though... I don't have the midi app used in the video, but I bought Mozaic in the recent sale. Haven't really used it yet though. The other option of course is to just assign the right note and channel to a dedicated foot pedal button and go straight into the mozaic script.

    Here is a track I made with MidiMixer. I have to say that it was a lot of fun to do it and the process was very innovative. First I have just recorded sequences of sounds and then I used MidiMixer to "sculpt" the tracks from the row material. Hope you like it

  • I have a iRig blueboard and would like to control the 8 scenes of MidiMix with it. How can I do that ? I know I can use 4 instances of the cc-trigger-to-note Mozaic script (https://patchstorage.com/cc-trigger-to-notes/) and I can control up to four scenes. But I would like to control the other four too... does anyone know if there is a script for this ?

    Does this one help extend the BB buttons to 8? https://patchstorage.com/irig-blueboard-spacer/

    As @wim said above, MFX Convert is just dead simple and is worth the $2.99 in time savings (IMHO). But if you are just experimenting with things and don't want to invest, you could use any sequence generator in Mozaic to get the sequential approach that I outlined in the video:

    https://patchstorage.com/trigseq/
    https://patchstorage.com/hypno-sequence/

    If you want to assign 8 different pads to the 8 snapshots, then I don't recall seeing anything on PatchStorage that does that in Mozaic. Remapping notes in Mozaic would be a good training project, if you are up to it. Again, MFX Convert is just dead simple for this use case as it allows you to learn each controller button and assign the note on the fly (and it stores all eight in one MIDI AU instance).

    That's a very cool track and I like how organic the transitions are! Very nice.

    Thanks! I will try this one...

  • @cuscolima can you report back? I don’t have a blueboard to try it out but I know several in the forum use one.

    The script is working like this :
    1. Long press on button A then
    Button A = C#-2
    Button B = D-2
    Button C = D#-2
    Button D = E-2

    Long press on B then
    Button A = A0
    Button B = A#0
    Button C = B0
    Button D = C1

    So it works in then sense that I have 8 differents outputs. But now to control my MidiMixer I have to find another script to map each output so that :
    C#-2 -> C-2
    D-2 -> C#-2
    D#-2 -> D-2
    E-2 -> D#-2
    A0 -> E-2
    A#0 -> F-2
    B0 ->F#-2
    C1 -> G-2

    Will let you know should I find the way to do that. Probably easy with a Mozaic script

    So it works pretty well when adding the following in another Mozaic instance :
    @OnMidiNote
    // the second byte in a midi note contains the note number...

    if MIDINote = 1
    SendMIDIOut MIDICommand + MIDIChannel, 0, 100
    elseif MIDINote = 5
    SendMIDIOut MIDICommand + MIDIChannel, 0, 100
    elseif MIDINote = 2
    SendMIDIOut MIDICommand + MIDIChannel, 1, 100
    elseif MIDINote = 6
    SendMIDIOut MIDICommand + MIDIChannel, 1, 100
    elseif MIDINote = 3
    SendMIDIOut MIDICommand + MIDIChannel, 2, 100
    elseif MIDINote = 7

    SendMIDIOut MIDICommand + MIDIChannel, 6, 100
    elseif MIDINote = 36
    SendMIDIOut MIDICommand + MIDIChannel, 7, 100
    elseif MIDINote = 40

    Yeah, @josh83 was a total maniac working on expanding the functionality of the of the Blueboard!

    Excellent work! 🙌🏻
