Looking for efficient file browser to play sample files , click and quick

Hi all,
I’m currently using Files app to go through samples 1by1 to find what I like.

Not efficient!

Is there any kind of file browser on iPadOS which has a kind of audio file preview system within it, rather than iOS clumsily presenting an entire screen when I click on an audio file?

A file manager with a kind of built in media player/preview?

I’m basically looking for a way to avoid having to bring samples in to an app and end up with file duplicates taking up room.

Thank you anyone who read! Hope your Christmas’s are going ok!

Because of the way iOS handles file storage, copying the files doesn’t actually take up additional space. AudioShare has the best audio file preview I know of, but you have to go through the trouble of storing the files there.

(iOS makes symbolic links to the original file. These look like a full copy both to you and to the apps that use them, but they’re really just pointers to the original file. I’m not just making this up ... it’s documented by Apple and has been tested by more than one forum member, myself included.)

AudioShare does have one disadvantage over the files app. Some apps can import whole folders from non-AudioShare locations, but only one file at a time from AudioShare. This may change some day, but not very likely for quite some time according to the developer.

  • Audioshare probably the best, most useful and functional (you can trim loops, normalize and etc). And If you use it with AUM you can add samples to project without duplicate it. Only little problem here it can’t prelisten samples in sync with other apps. So its often hard to look for specific loop for current project like you can do it in Ableton, Studio 1 and Bitwig. Hope to see someday link support there.

  • Audiotor is pretty neat for this too. No need to import anything...
Launch the app browse to the folder where your files are, tap the little speaker icon and tap the files to preview.

  • Yeah Auditor lets you preview audio files anywhere without needing to change how they're organised. Just launch the app and browse, making sure to highlight the little speaker icon at the bottom right so that tapping on a file will preview it rather than open it.

Much as I love Audioshare, it was made when the overall architecture of iOS was rather different, without the kind of file access we now have. If you're willing to use Audioshare as your file repository it still works well, but if you want to store your files and samples elsewhere (iCloud for instance) then Auditor is the way to go.

  • Such a shame Auditor is iPad only :(
