  • Seems to be few suggesting egoist but would looperator be the better choice for working with audio loops? They both seem similar but after looking at egoist I wondered i looperator was better if you had no interest in the synth and drum sections of egoist?

    Thanks

  • Another cool Egoist trick: load your favorite soundmaker and pick a key: hit record in AUM and play a handful of notes in the key you selected. Pull that sample into Egoist and go to town. You'll end up with something you can't get from any other iOS app, guaranteed.

Just grabbed Unique, I stayed away from it all this time because of bad reviews and low rating but I’m loving it. I’m thinking about getting WOW filerbox but I already have a ton of filter apps. Is anyone using it over others?

A thread about AUv3 filters just came up the other day. Some good info there, and options for other filters, their strengths etc.
    https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/42672/let-s-talk-auv3-filters/p1

Imo, the WOW filters are good for harsher sounds, saturated/distorted filtering, or vowel sounds. TB Dual VCF has sweeter filters, and were modeled more recently than the 4 year old WOW filters. The coolest standalone filter on IOS imo is Polylvoks. ApeFilter is the most surgical (and also wonderfully weird). VCS3 VCF is the highest 'quality' filter. Can't comment on the JAF Collection, but I've heard good things about their quality. Mirack has many filters for the cost of a single app. Drambo's filters are also really really nice, and can self resonate beautifully.

I have all the ones you mentioned plus more, BLEASS Filter, Filterstation2, Filterstep which is very nice and I think it was free? Also just got more filters with the ones that came with MixBox. I probably don’t need another filter in my life lol.

For those that don’t need any more synths,

    What should one pick up?

Aparillo really has a different sound, and it's free to try.

Thanks for the recommendation- been enjoying this one since Black Friday as well. Like I said, don’t need anymore synths haha 😆

  • One caveat: apps like Aparillo and Drumcomputer seem to use a huge amount of cpu. I have trouble running them with much else going on.

Anyone recommend Egoist? Regularly 30 bucks?

I love it and use it often but like anything it depends on your workflow. It's a great groovebox, with 3 layers: sample slicing, drum, bass, and an effects section, with lots of randomisation options. I use it often. Presets are a bit on the wacky side, but I've created quite a few useful ones of my own which feature regularly.

Egoist is fantastic for creating something new out of riffs that are otherwise not interesting. I’ve used it a few times to take something and work it into a much more interesting piece than it was when I started.

To me its strength is that it’s a great tool to experiment with using just about anything as input.

Thanks guys, I guess now would be the time to grab it eh?

    Yes, an essential tool.

Thanks. Can you describe what makes it essential for you?

As @michael_m asserts above, egoist is essential for me to “think differently” about a track or a composition. My ears get tired of things that have been done before and egoist never fails to take something mediocre and turn it into something interesting. It’s mostly due to the flexibility of the random buttons—it allows you to progressively stretch something in different directions by randomizing very specific aspects of a loop or sample or sequence. And once you get the samples/loops sounding interesting you can then use the same flexible randomizations to effects settings and sequences. It’s also great fun.

Thank you. It does look fun!

    Fun indeed!

this is great - I know I've never dived deeply enough into egoist.

I haven’t used factory. To be clear, these are great apps. They just need a lot of power.

No Drum Computer or Looperator in this sale...that sucks

I think Drum Computer may be a couple dollars off on the IAP. I believe the regular price is $26.99.

It says it’s on sale, but the price seems not to have changed.

this ^^ that’s basically how i’ve been using it!
i’ve only had it a month or so since you all talked me into it, and it is a great deal of fun. i haven’t tried too hard to use it in a song but i’ve def got my share of escape reality with it... and i’m sure when i get the time i’ll use it more productively.. but for sure it’sa great app with lots of distraction power

I watched Jacob Haqs video and it pushed me over the top, and it wasn’t an audio unit when he made the video. I love how you can modulate pretty much everything, and another thing that’s crazy is that you can apply the arp to just one oscillator if you want, I’ve never seen that before so I guess that’s one thing that make it unique lol.

  • edited December 2020

Is anyone else having issues buying the Factory synth via the iap?

I tap the “buy/restore” button but it does nothing!

The other buttons work fine though.

Edit: using 2018 iPad Pro 11(512gb)

I have it. So deep. the UI is little bit small You need at least 11 inch ipad. But 12.9 is recommended.

  • I have all sugarbytes except unique. Looperator is really a game changer as it workflow is top notch. A. Simple piano rhythm can be turned into stunning sound

  • I'm not sure to fully understand. When I launched Aparillo the last time on my iPad, I receives a pop-up to buy the full version of the app at 13$.

And on the canadian AppStore, it's 19,99$. Is there 2 versions of Aparillo?

  • Can anyone confirm if Apparillo saves LFO rates? The reason is IOS version is V1.0.4 and PC/Mac is on 1.0.7. Looking at the change log there was a fix for this issue in V1.0.5. I've encountered the Orbiter issue, (cursor sometimes gets stuck on the edge of the screen at record time for reasons unknown and fixed in V1.0.6) so I'm assuming the version histories and bugs are identical.
Shame because I'm starting to enjoy this but I'll have to just play with the trial if preset saving misses LFO rates, I know it's going to get annoying. Sorry for the dry post!

What Unique for iPad brings that Unique for iPhone don't... on an iPad ?

I got Unique for iPhone in the BF sales.
I had a look at some of the older threads and
there seemed to be no difference between the two.
Apparently the iPhone didn’t scale properly on an iPad
    which they have now corrected.
There seems to be no difference in usage or sound for
that matter so I would say get the iPhone version.
It’s a bargain for the price.

i doubt i would the it that much to ever want to buy the ipad version but hey if i can donate a couple bucks to have the clunky ui maybe run a couple instances, it might prove me wrong and get me to purchase. i wish it had the usual sugar bytes stand alone demo tho

I've bought the iPhone version version too and it's perfectly usable on the iPad 👍🏻... so you're right : 2,29€ for this synth, installed on both my iPhone and my iPad, is an absolute bargain !

  • watching the videos it , unique, sounds like a vowel synth, i don’t think that’s up my alley... is that kinda where it hangs out?
