Theysis is on sale: how does it compare to riffer 3?
So, after failing to win gavinski’s competition, I bought riffer 3, but I haven’t had a chance to dive into it yet. How does this new version compare to thesys (which has just gone on sale)? I have been looking at old discussions of thesys and got the impression that thesys was deeper than early versions of riffer, is this still true? I also notice thesys getting a lot of flack for having a not so good UI.

Subscribed to thread as I’d like to know member’s thoughts on this as well. I don’t have either, but they both look interesting! I’m leaning towards Thesys because I’m thinking about buying Egoist as well, and I think it’d make sense to have a little Sugarbytes collection.
That’s not to say I couldn’t be talked into Riffer as well of course!
The interface is a little daunting, but once you get the hang of it things are quite easy to figure out.
It has a lot more functionality than Riffer, but Riffer is much quicker and easier to use out of the box.
Riffer’ s randomization tends to be about a million times more musical that’s thesys’s, lol. But thesys is very cool and does a lot of things riffer doesn’t, notably CC sequencing and cool stuff with pitch bends etc. you have watched my vid on Riffer, so maybe just download Thesys manual and take a skim through it, you will see it does a lot.
Thesys has some nice performance options but I’ve probably been using Riffer a bit more since the last update. I like using iPhone as well and Riffer is universal and also has the 4 sequencers. Still looking forward to digging into Thesys more though.
^^^ THIS ^^^
Incredibly feature packed, but it desperately needs to be optimized for iOS. I’ve got a 12.9 Pro and it’s really hard to use because everything is so tiny on the UI. I can’t imagine using it on a smaller ipad. It’s amazing and I love all the Sugar Bytes apps, but it needs an UI makeover IMO.
Yes, this. If you like the usual sugar bytes wackiness you’ll love the extra pitch bends, chords, ratchets etc in the performance lane. If not, pass.
I'd love to use it. It's got SO many cool features. But every time I try I get frustrated with the size of the controls and find it very difficult to use.
Terrible for writing thesis papers. I got an F on my senior thesis. Thanks Sugar Bytes.
The tap to zoom in is great, but it doesn’t help that you need to memorize what is where in the first place so you know what you’re zooming in on.
Thanks everyone. Excellent advice as always. (I bought it)
I'm finally starting to appreciate Thesys now, after really digging into the manual.
A pencil or crayon is essential.
With Riffer 3 there is more overlap now, but Thesys still excels in a few areas in the performance section, action section (FX), mapping section and pattern sequencer.
Also, if you use other Sugar Bytes products then there is a kind of consistency with Thesys that helps prop it up - until Sugar Bytes releases a multitrack sequencer for the touch screen. Not holding my breath.
