Cubasis 2.8.4 update crackling

Anybody else experiencing crackling with the new Cubasis 2.8.4 update? Did not occur with 2.8.3. iPad Air 3, ios 13.7. Have rebooted, cleared RAM etc.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Same settings as usual, medium latency, doesn’t matter the polyphony. Random.

  • Having the same problem with newest CB3. Try setting latency compensation to OFF.
    Good luck

Thanks, but Cubasis 2 only has ultra low, low and medium setting. On medium setting always.

  • Same here. Super crackling with iPad Pro 12.9 2020 1tb, iOS 14.3...

This is the only thing that works for me.

  • Ive been suffering clicks on CB3 for too long and
    Latency Compensation OFF
    seems to fix it.

    Thank you so much @israelite

    @Richtowns
    You are welcome brother.

@musikeer sorry to hear that. Perhaps Lars from Steinberg @LFS can help you with this.

Glad I’m not the only one. My Cubasis 3 project with only two midi tracks and both lightweight synths with no added effects was unplayable.

  • That’s strange. I’m using an inferior iPad with huge projects and no crackling. Have you posted about this in the Steinberg forum?

    Hi all,

I'd suggest not to mix Cubasis 2.8.4 and 3.2 topics in this posting which is about Cubasis 2.8.4.

Instead, we will share further information in regards to multicore rendering and the available latency setup options in the Cubasis 3.2, new Waves IAPs and Xmas Sale available topic later today, which should be helpful for you in solving your current issues.

    Best wishes,
    Lars

Any help for the people who just updated to 2.8.4? Or is the advice “Don’t update”?

    ### Cubasis 2.8.4 Information ###

    Hi @musikeer, Hi all,

In regards to Cubasis 2.8.4 no performance related changes have been made, compared to previous versions.
Please give these steps a try:

    • Load an empty project
    • Close all running apps, including Cubasis
    • Shut down your iPad

Furthermore, we suggest to update your iPad to iPadOS 14.3, which introduces AU related fixes alongside other improvements.
Please let us know, if this helps to solve your problem.

    ### Cubasis 3.2 Information ###

    Hi all,

Due to having received several questions regarding the performance optimizations introduced with Cubasis 3.2, our engineering compiled a dedicated article which you can find right here:

    Cubasis 3.2 - Multicore-rendering & Latency Settings

    Best,
    Lars

I’ve been putting off updating to 14.3 because of the reported problems with disappearing AUv3 instruments and/or efx. Is it established yet that that problem has been corrected? At the tail end of a major project and can’t afford any gliches.

Also, just to say, I’ve been using Cubasis 2.8.3 with iPadOS 13.7 very successfully, with many instruments/plug-ins etc. I loaded Cubasis 3.2 to see if the performance was better than previous versions, for me the crackling was instant, so I immediately deleted it. Then updated the existing 2.8.3 to 2.8.4. That’s when the crackling started. Could there have been residual weirdness left over from 3.2?

I always open a blank/empty project before quitting Cubasis, and have cleared RAM, shut down and rebooted. The only thing I haven’t tried is to force quit all other apps. Most, but not all. I’ll give it a try. Thanks for your help, @LFS.

  • had a crash after loading new update. and frustrates that the bluetooth audio quality still has not been resolved. most other ios apps have figured it out, not sure why cubasis hasn’t.

After force quitting all apps (there were only a few), setting Cubasis to "Load empty project on next app launch" (in Settings/Cubasis), as well as the usual quitting Cubasis with an empty project loaded, then force quitting it, and yet another RAM cache clearing and reboot, performance seems to be back to pre-Cubasis 2.8.4 performance. I haven't used it heavily yet, but seems good. Synthscaper LE has always been a CPU monster, but freezing takes care of that. Great sounding app...

Still wondering what the latest information is about the iPadOS 14.3 update? Safe for AUV3 or not?
