Cubasis 3 vs Auria Pro vs Audio Evolution (Punch in)

I've been testing the Punch In function in various DAWS, re-recording a specific point on the track is important to me

If you know any other DAW that has this functionality I would like to try it

  • Try this is Cubasis 3.

    Record your initial track
    Enable recording
    Uncheck the monitor
Set your punch in area on the time line
In settings check play audio tracks while recording
In recording mode enable punch in and punch out
    Record

    Works for me...

  • That is literally the one and only thing I hate about Cubasis, you still hear the old audio underneath what you punch in and why I’m still searching for the perfect IPad Daw for my workflow. It happens with Audio Evolution too. It doesn’t happen with Auria Pro, but Auria Pro doesn’t allow you to punch in manually on the fly, which I prefer at times. ZenBeats will let you manually punch and won’t play the old take like Cubasis, but as far as I know, it doesn’t have auto punch...which I DO need sometimes lol.oh, and you have to make sure you have the loop feature disabled or your audio will get erased when it loops back around.
Multitrack Daw, has manual and auto punch, and doesn’t play the old audio underneath the punch in, but it’s an Audio only daw, which is fine, I can deal with importing stems or a 2 track into it and recording audio there....but it doesn’t export stems. If I feel like I need to do some serious audio recording that involves punching in wether auto or manual, I always end up back in ProTools (or Logic Pro ,but mainly ProTools ) on my MacBook Pro until there’s something close to the way ProTools records audio on the IPad platform 🤷🏽‍♂️

I think CB3 has a setting relating to overdub behaviour? Looper mode which controls whether you hear the previous audio?

    +1, uncheck this setting:

It’s good to read manuals at times :D
But this option should not be enabled by default IMO...

Agreed, except that’s not what I’m talking about, I know about that setting , what I mean is, once you record over a section, when you play it back you will still hear the old audio playing back along with the new audio you punched in. For example , in the screen shot I’m including , in the section were I punched in, I didn’t play anything , it should be silent , but it’s not, you can still hear the old audio playing. You shouldn’t hear anything.

Try it. Record some audio , then punch in over it. You will still hear the part you punched in over

This is what I mean, I would love to not hear the part that was recorded over.

Also I know I have it set play audio when recording, because I want to hear what’s playing so I can play along and know where I’m punching it. I would love if there was just an option to replace audio vs overdub , and while we’re at it, I would also love an option to either overdub or replace midi when punching in. Last but not least , when in punch in mode, it would be great if punch mode could stay enabled until we decide to take it out of punch in mode instead of Cubasis taking itself out of punch in mode.
Cubasis would be my dream IPad Daw if these things could happen 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

Audio Evolution works fine for me, I can Punch (in out) in a specific place and while recording the previously recorded track does not sound between the locators

Auria Pro works for me too, although I have to admit that the bass would stop playing sometimes and I had to restart the app to be able to hear it again

I have not tried Multitrack DAW and Zenbeats yet, but I am curious

Well, I have tried what you tell me, the problem is that unchecking the monitor makes me unable to hear what I am playing, the bass is muted, although it would still be recorded, but it is impossible to play without knowing what you are playing

Punch and punch out works very well for me. I just placing the marker on the timeline where I wanna start recording, hit metronome to pre-count a couple of bars and arming the track. And importantly enough making sure that loop is not enabled on the top transport bar.
