Heads up: Plasmonic’s introductory discount ends this Sunday, January 17th at midnight PST. Price will go up to 150 dollars instead of 100. Absolutely loving this and was worth every penny.

Agreed - it's an incredible synth and now I've discovered Sonobus I can even include it in AUM sessions...👍

  • Still demo it but not yet sold on it. I also got distracted by Vital.
The GUI from Plasmonic is really hard to work with for me.
The only 2 new synths of interest for me. Vital does MPE and microtuning too and is even free if you want. Best GUI ever in a software synth for me.
There are also some limitations in Plasmonic i cannot oversee.
But one thing for sure, it sounds alive.
The spaces FX part is really special too.

Curious what you see as the limitations? The GUI does not bother me in the least, apart from the fact that viewing modulation sources/targets is a bit fiddly.

I find the colors too dark. Modulation takes maybe some time to get used to but I think it’s a clever implementation.

One thing I like to test I’m MPE synths is bypass the amplitude envelope and control volume with aftertouch. Equator is king in this, Cypher and Aalto from Madrona labs are great too.

I find Plasmonic a bit slow in this but I haven’t tested thoroughly so I won’t conclude anything yet.

To me the combination of wave table and resonator is simply great and worth it.

Vital is such a good synth too but I can’t focus on too many things at once so it has to wait.

F.e. that a pulse is always retriggered by a new note by design. There are a few minor things and some things I miss in such a synth but I also know its a v1.0 and I bet it will evolve further.
I would not pay €149 really but for €99 its worth it maybe. Not sure yet since I just have so much tools already.

  • I take everything back. I just bought it yesterday and after diving in deeper and do my own sound design I must say this is AMAZING! Hard to describe but maybe I never felt so much life within synth presets with such an organic feel.
Also it has micro tuning and so I am in heaven right now.
And I even do not started really with diving deep into MPE. Even just played the "normal" way these sounds are alive.
    I am really officially amazed.

  • Such a great synth, super fast attack, very fun with MPE and Linnstrument, I mean very fun.

  • edited January 2021

Yes it beautiful and it really really feels organic, especially with MPE. Bought it yesterday no regrets at all. Still debating to get equator 2 but.....

Glad u changed your mind, I agree it is seriously amazing.

  • I got it as well - it definitely fills a spot. People elsewhere compare it to Sculpture and that’s true but it still seems more interesting sonically to me.

The UI is frankly terrible, though.

  • Nice to hear @Clueless

Eq2 is in improvement on one. Not much to do with Plasmonic. Heavy on cpu, maybe the best MPE implementation. I still think the granular engine in Pigments is better but they complement each other nonetheless. And if you want to explore wavetable have a look at Vital. Amazing and free (if you want)

  • Yuli Yolo has released a set of presets for Plasmonic, which you can hear here played with the Gestrument. Nice combo:

  • Yuli Yolo is a good sound designer and I like the style (also knowing from other synths).
Also while I was not sure about Plasmonic and still do not love the GUI i know find Plasmonic is my new favourite synth.
Now that I explored it more, it beats even Sculpture. The resonator inside Plasmonic is the best I ever used and so versatile. Especially for hybrid kind of things and out of this world but organic timbres it THE tool for me now. MPE and microtonality. I am a sucker for physical modelling and while it will not replace tools for special sounds or emulating more realistic instruments like Pianoteq, Chromaphone and a lot others, Plasmonic is my new love child for now.
Its so easy and fast to come up with kind of piano, harp, tuned percussion hybrid things which are so playable and you can fine edit the tiniest nuances if needed.
Also spaces is super awesome once I explored it more. The sympathetic resonance (which you also can edit to your likes in many different ways) is really something special too and missing in a lot similar tools.
I am so happy that I bought it!

Amazing, @Clueless I really like it too but I am lately diving into Alchemy again (my first synth) and then I would like to explore sculpture just to see if I have learned something to in this couple of years with all kinds of iOS synths.

Both belongs to my favourites too. Sculpture is still very unique and also Alchemy which is still my favourite hybrid synth which still offer some very unique things no other synth can do.
Alchemy was my first synth I explored years ago when I started to do my own presets instead of just using default ones.
I really miss the iOS Alchemy app. Was the best synth on iOS for me ever (even if it was just more a player but with good options for sculpting the sound and later even a simple sample import).
The current version in Logic is really great (beside that Apple removed 2 major features, waveform import and micro tuning).
But Plasmonic is really a fresh tool in a world full of analog emulations and wavetable synth etc. Its really similar to Sculpture in terms of the sounds you can create but Plasmonic goes a bit further for me.

  • Had this synth on my wishlist. Now it is on sale until 11 December, 33% off. It sounds so good and it is totaly seaboard ready. That will be great for Thanksgiving
