Does AUM make sense for me!?
I use Audiobus at the moment for live “dawless” jamming, running loops and sequences from various apps through effects and recording into AudioShare.
Its fine but I see that so many people use aum instead, does it make sense to make a change? Is it much better for messing around in? What does aum do that AudioShare doesn’t or visa versa?
Thanks very much and sorry if this is like the most asked question on the forum.

Audiobus is great but it’s missing a few features that AUM has, like multi out support, busses, file recorder, built in effects, etc. All depends on what you need.
The big feature that Audiobus has is the statesaving of Audiobus compatible IAA apps. You don’t get that kind of session recall in AUM so you have to use a workaround like saving the IAA app preset with the same name as the AUM session to keep track. Once you move to only using AUv3 apps this feature becomes unnecessary.
The other thing Audiobus has which is very cool is the separate Remote app for another device. This doesn’t get talked about much but it is a really nice feature that can add some spontaneity to your session even if you are not a fully ‘live’ musician.
There’s other differences as well but I have switched to AUM using AUv3 plugins 99% of the time.
These may be a bit dated now as AUM has had significant updates but worth checking.

Thanks yeah. Not sure how much of that I need. Multi out would mean if I had multitrack daw it would record onto separate tracks and I could mess with levels afterwards before mixing down?
Thank you, must admit that state saving is very useful for me. I didn’t know about the remote app!! That sounds exciting! Anyway better have a think about this, thanks!!
Ayayay sorry for that... I see it’s been talked about a lot. Thanks!
No apology necessary! Apps get updated so it’s good to get fresh perspectives.
I should be clear that Audiobus Remote is a separate app: https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/audiobus-remote/id964755325
Multi out in this context (as I understand it!) is a single auv3 instance outputting to multiple channels. AUM added support for this fairly recently; allowing, for instance, sidechain compressors to work, or different drum pads to be output separately so you can mix your kick, snare and hats separately.
Btw your question is perfectly valid - I used Audiobus, Xequence 2 and AUM all together until quite recently. It all depends on what modules you need to get what you want out of a modular ‘dawless’ setup 👍
Cool thanks!!
Brilliant, thanks so much! I’m really digging the modularity of this kind of set up, it’s endless amounts of fun!!
Easy Dan!
I have to confess, I've never tried Audiobus at all so can't really comment on what it does or doesn't do.
Personally I use AUM for basically everything.
I sample other apps into Koala by placing it in an effect slot of the channel I want to sample and setting it to record, for example.
I love the MIDI mapping via MIDI learn aspect of it, which has made working with controllers so much easier.
I have to add a caveat to this, though, of course: I've no idea if I could do this within AB or not.
