I (sorta) figured out MIDI clock sync from Loopy to DM1
So first of all, I think this has been a nagging problem for quite some time. If you are using Loopy as master clock with DM1, they quickly drift apart. This drives me insane, because I LOVE all the features on DM1. Anyways, if you'd like to loop Animoog or Magellan with Loopy, while running DM1 in the background (or on a separate Audiobus track, like me), check this out...
Make sure you reset the session in Loopy and clear the current pattern in DM1. Then:
- Set Loopy to send MIDI clock to DM1.
Set DM1 to receive Tempo from Loopy.
--- I have no idea if the order matters above. It might, so play with it if you can't get it to work . ---Record a loop into Loopy, from whatever synth you're jamming on (besides DM1, obviously).
At this point, Loopy will have sent a clock start message to DM1. It will be playing over our blank pattern. Now:
4. Under the MIDI settings in DM1, send Tempo to Loopy. Don't change any other settings, and don't add DM1 as a clock input in Loopy. Just click the word 'Tempo' under MIDI Sends in DM1.
5. Enjoy rock solid MIDI sync!
The only downside to this trick is that you can't stop and start DM1. If you want to drop the drums, you have to use the mixer, or change patterns. It gets pretty weird, actually, if you play with starting and stopping either program. But who cares? I waited two minutes and there was zero drift.
Hope this is helpful! It's not a perfect fix, but it is close enough for now.

Interesting, so what happens if you change BPM in Loopy after doing those steps? Does DM1 follow along?
No. I believe loopy will follow DM1, but not vice versa. I could be wrong, but I think that's what I recall happening.
I mean, it's not a perfect fix. But it's workable, I guess.
Do we know if an update is in store? I really want to be able to change the tempo from DM1 and have loopy's tempo synced to THAT
I posted to the Loopy forum about a work around I came up with using Beat Maker 2.
DM1 can sit inside of BM2 as an IAA track which has good sync, then you send clock from Beat Maker 2 and [for reasons I know not] turn OFF clock inputs in Loopy. BM2 is your master clock, and the other two just follow along.
The wonderful world of ios midi - it does mystify!
