Schlap AUv3 by Caelum Audio
https://apps.apple.com/app/id1544325236
Description:
Schlap is a characterful, colourful and aggressive sounding program-dependent AUv3, IAA & standalone compressor. It takes inspiration from hardware RMS compressors of the past and evolves them into a modern setting. If you want your tracks to be energetic, in-your-face and bold, make ‘em ‘Schlap’.
The compressor uses a program-dependent attack and release influenced by old hardware which makes the compression sound characterful and dynamic.
The RMS detection means that Schlap detects the average loudness of a signal, resulting in sudden short peaks being uncompressed so that they can attack hard and sound heavy hitting. Also inherently in RMS detection, there is a slight delay in compression which allows the initial, early transients to sneak through uncompressed so they keep their punch.
You’ve got a safe, controlled track you think you’re happy with, but you have to ask yourself… ‘Does it Schlap?’
Schlap is both a stand-alone application as well as an AUv3 plugin, meaning it works within iOS and iPadOS hosts such as GarageBand.

Great for drums. It boosts really well. Make them punchy.
Thanks for posting!
We have just released a product demo video which can be found here:

If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask. If you pick up the compressor, please enjoy!

I like it! It has its own colorization/personality, which is why I (we?) never get tired of trying new and old compressors. Yep it’s aggressive, not omfg 🙀 what is going on -RoughRider aggressive, but just the right amount.
Love the expansion option on this one and very 'musical' with a few knobs to tweak
UI scales nicely on my iPhone 8 too!
Still curious about this one. I was playing with the beta that's still good... and it seems like this is sort of a dynamic combo, filter, gate, compressor, AND a limiter? I think I was using it more as a limiter with a little color dialed in via filters, but it's possible I have what this is doing all wrong. Can this indeed be also used as a dynamic limiter?
@Paulinko I watched that one earlier, but he doesn't even mention any limiting function either. It's not mentioned in the description. But, it seems like how I've been using it is indeed in much the same way I'd use a limiter, only it lets more stuff through dynamically/selectively than just limiting with a hard cap.. if that makes any sense.
Hi @skiphunt,
Schlap uses RMS (average) level detection rather than peak detection. Because of this it is impossible to use it in the traditional sense of a limiter as it doesn't respond to every single peak so these won't be limited. However, because it does respond to the average level you could use it as a kind of loudness limiter if you use a high knee value (to make it a little less aggressive sounding) and a high/infinite ratio.
Hope this helps!
David
Got it. thx
