Pictures At A Planetarium / Happy 2021Guys!
First, many thanks to @rs2000 for taking time to master this 45:00 project. His support has been invaluable to me. Also to @Spidericemidas and @shinyisshiny for some great presets. They were great to have at hand. Thank you!
rs2000 reminded me of the Japanese composer, Tomita and his synthesized wonderments, including a cover of Moussorgski’s “Pictures At An Exhibition”. Following in his footsteps and inspired by Holst’s “The Planets”, I tried my own hand at astrosonics in this completely improvised effort.
Mostly synths, naturally...
Tera, Zeeon, Kronecker (spider and Shiny), LaGrange (Spider), Sunrizer [Spider), Magellan2, Pipa, PureSynthPlatinum, NOISE, SynthScaper LE, Poseidon, Continua (Spider) Syntronik, SynthMasterPlayer, BASSalicious, and Microsonic.
Plus some acoustics, Jubal Flute, Retro Piano, House Mark1, ISymphonic, Ravenscroft 275, Module,
WorldSynth (TAQsim) and BeatHawk.
This project averted my eyes from the keyboard to the stars. No turning back, now! I hope you will enjoy listening to this as much as I enjoyed making it. That is my New Year’s hope.
Part 1: Escape From Lunar Orbit, Ceres The Dwarf, Mars 2nd Home, Io, Big Jupe, Europa.
Part 2: Saturnia, Uranus God of the Sky, Neptune The Ice Planet, Pluto Tombaugh Regis.
(Pluto was first observed by Clyde Tombaugh and named by his 11 year old daughter).

Epic sounds @LinearLineman - I have a slight preference to the themes of Part 2, but what a great celestial odyssey to start to the new year!
Thank you @pbelgium (funny, I was certain you lived in Belgium, too. I guess Belgium would have been capitalized if you did. Ahh, the details). Actually, I think the further I got from earth the better the music became.
Enjoying these and your vast scope. The further out you go the more 'far out' it becomes!
@LinearLineman , started the day by listening to a new recording of the Planets over breakfast and have just listened to your two pieces in one sitting. Fantastic... I really enjoyed them especially the Oriental flavour of (I think) Ceres followed by the quiet passage of Mars?. Will definitely listen again as there is a lot to take in. As an aside it makes me smile that Holst was born just too early to add Pluto to the planets but perversely, if he had been born now he equally wouldn’t include it. Such is science.
Thank you @Stochastically, yes indeed, the further I got from Earth the more liberated I felt!
@GeoTony, thanks so much for taking the time to listen to the whole megillah. I want folks to listen, of course, but who can invest 45:00 on a piece of music? Still, I didn’t want to divide it into separate tracks.
There’s something about the progression, tho not carefully planned, that creates a different mood than if you listened to one or two tracks.
I think listening to Holst’s Jupiter is like that. By itself it is a fine piece of music, but it is so much less out of context. So, it means a lot to me to have a few ears listen to it as intended. Thanks for being one pair of them!
Don’t forget the Oort Cloud.
@Stochastically, there are apparently 4 dwarf planets in the Kuiper Belt, including Pluto, in those distant environs. Holst might reinvision his epic work were he alive today with an iPad😉
Oh! Now this is a musical journey! Listening in the car believe it or not. And it. Sounds. Amazing!
This is a real treat Mike, thank you!
@Intrepolicious, thank you, Ed, for taking the time to listen. I appreciate your support very much!
What a wonderful journey! I was transported far away to mysterious and magical places. Really glad you strung them all together like this for a nice long uninterupted chillout experience. I’m thrilled that some of my sounds made a contribution to this creation. Congrats on the completion of this astronomical project! I’ve actually been a very keen astronomer since age 7, so this is right up my alley! Love your work! ❤️
Thanks so much for your support @Spidericemidas. Your presets really were inspiring in the creation of this piece. I hope to use many more. Happy New Year (my last new year’s greeting for 2021) 😉🙏🥳
I used this music in the new "Web Audio Player" AUv3 SoundCloud player and added extra
MixBox FX... really good piece and its great to know I can clone any SoundCloud file for loops and to added extra parts or tweak the mix.
I recommend this music and the new app highly.
Congrats @LinearLineman ! Quite an undertaking.
Liked 'Io' and 'Neptune the Ice Planet' the best. But it's best consumed as a whole piece for sure.
I used to listen to the Holst recordings all the time ....also just watched the PBS Nova doc The Planets recently. Love anything on the subject.
@McD i’m curious as to how you altered it. Please PM me or post.
Thank you @BitterGums for listening through. I realize, especially these days, folks don’t do that often. Also, @animal is working on videos for these. They will interest you, I think.
It was a test for the new "Web Audio Player". MixBox has really good studio emulation
models and it helps improve audio rendering. No biggy. I always add one of the Dynamics
models, one of the EQ's models, the stereo imaging model and a reverb. I highly recommend it. I don't even turn the knobs on most models... just use defaults. I do tweak the reverb to taste (Studio, Hall, Cathedral, etc). It's a lot like what you can do to the tone in Ravenscroft using the EQ and Reverb controls. MixBox also has a Limiter which can guard against putting out something too hot that will cause crackles.
Of course, all these functions are available in ToneBoosters, Fab Filters, iFX, 4 Pockets, Blue
Mangoo and Magic Death Eye AUv3 FX and they can also be applied using "Web Audio Player" in a DAW.
@McD, do you used Web Audio Player to download my SoundCloud posts into AUM?
It's streams from web sites that feature audio and SoundCloud is just one of a huge number of choices. I have often wanted to "analyze" SoundCloud audio... slow it down and loop it for example.
I input "http://SoundCloud.com" into the "Web Audio Player" and you most recent work was
loaded and started to play for me. It implies that I can very easily then record that channel in my DAW (i.e. AUM) and have a copy of your work. Don' be alarmed... I don't intend to do that but there are a lot of sites that have useful audio I might use in something.
This is probably not something you need... "Tube AU" is a similar app that loads up Youtube
videos and makes it easy to "borrow" the audio stream. As you know there's a lot of classic
movies content on YouTube so that's a cool way to grab classic audio clips.
Nice little bit of prose, that. With a noir vibe.
