AUv3 distortion/waveshaping effect that allows you to draw transfer function

edited January 2021 in General App Discussion

This article has been lingering unread in my opened tabs for a few weeks or so and I finally came around to read it: https://www.perfectcircuit.com/signal/learning-synthesis-waveshapers

is there an AU that allows you to draw a transfer function and thus experiment with the kinds of distortion you could create this way?

(I've only seen a few wavetable distortion effects, but I guess that's something else although atm I'm not 100% sure either how those work... I get what wavetable synths are, but wavetable distortion? gotta keep on reading :D )

  • The Graphic Shaper in Drambo is at least one option I'm aware of...

  • Sunvox's Waveshaper module also has a "drawable" transfer function.

  • Thanks guys, two very interesting apps I really haven't found the time yet to take a deep dive :) Can sunvox also take external audio input, i.e. can you use it as an effects unit like drambo?

Yes, you can load SunVox AUv3 in an effects slot in AUM or any AUv3 host.
In order for the sound to pass thru you need to route an input module to the output.

  • Shaper by K Devices does wave-folding and a whole lot more. It have a graphical waveform display so you can see the application on the original signal.

Waveshaper by Elliot Garage have a waveform to which you can apply other waveforms and Laos and have them morph. You can draw your own waves.

Flection by Elepahantcandy (now gone from the App Store) applies any number of waveforms to the incoming signal and rectifies, distorts, bit crushes. The coolest thing is could save 4 presets and morph between them through an XY matrix.
