Yes, it can be used to record audio in NS2. Tested this myself. If I remember correctly SoundTestRoom has a video about this.
The files it produces are in my opinion useful, each "song" has an audio pool, so audio segments can be collected inside and easily shared with file system and apps that support clipboard.
Thanks so much for confirming this @neinneinnein that's great news. I'm moving across to Cubasis due to the lack of audio support in Nanostudio however I have some projects that I'd like to add vox and guitar to and would rather not export stems/tracks etc. I'm amazed I've not heard about this before considering the amount of whinging about the NS2 audio update (or lack thereof).
