Getting my Mixdown from the files app into the Music App?

Hi I am sure this is a silly noob situation but I did an internet search and no luck so..

I have mixed down a song in NS2.

I moved the mix into a song file In the file app.

I want to put that song into the Music App (formerly itunes) so that I may listen to it and convert into an mp3so that I may email to a friend.

How is this done?

  • Oh I wanted to mention that both the files app and the Music app are on the same iPad

  • I believe the only way to get your own files into Music is via import into iTunes (now renamed, is it Music?) then syncing.

This is a spectacularly f****** annoying limitation in a general sense! FWIW I’m looking for a replacement app which can work with local / network / cloud files, suggestions anyone?

You could try the AUMediaPlayer app. It can access files from any server seen by the Files app.

Ok, so how do I import my song from the files app on my iPad into the Music (formerly iTunes) app on my iPad?

I use to save the song in files on my iPad. I would then go into files from my laptop and drag the song it into iTunes and sync it. Then it would show up in iTunes on my iPad. I haven't tried in a while so not sure if this process still works.

  • This one is out of Apples “department of user annoyance”, they also came up with the idea to get rid of the headphone jack 😁

  • So I cannot do it within the same iPad?

No. And there are plenty of apps that you can use to play music files that are on your iPad but not in the Music app. If you want to convert to another format, you will need to use an app. I do file conversions in Audioshare or Auditor.

I have audio share, how do I transfer the song from the files app into audio share and convert it to an mp3 so I can email it?

Do you store your songs in Audio share? I have always stored mine in iTunes but....

I store the things I create on my iOS devices either in AudioShare or in a folder on my iCloud drive. There has never been a way to move audio you create into the iTunes/Music app on an iPad/iPhone without use of desktop/laptop.

Audioshare's folders are visible in the Files app. You just move the file into any folder inside Audioshare. To convert a file in AudioShare, you select it and use the Convert command. You can then use the Share sheet in AudioShare to email the file.

  • TwistedWave or Auditor can save as mp3 but AudioShare can’t.

    Darn

Do really need mp3? AAC (mp4/m4a) is as good or better and pretty widely supported.

  • Oh those should work fine thanks

    Audioshare can do those fine.

  • It seems that my problem is the files app. It is just not intuitive for me. I long tapped the song, selected “move” then scrolled down to AudioShare and put it in the proper file. However it did not move the file, it copied it. Is thIs normal? When you select “move” the file app does not actually move it but copies it? Or am I doing something wrong?

Anyway, I wanted to send the song via email. I went into Audio Share and selected the song, then hit the word Tools in the upper right corner and converted it to an mp4 something something This automatically selected the new version and I hit the square with an arrow on top and was able to select email. I email it to a friend and it worked, I got confirmation.

So a big thank you to you all for the help.

    As far as storage goes:

It looks like I am done with the “music” app as I cannot get the song from the files app to the music app on the same damn iPad!

Should I keep my song permanently in Audio Share and delete the copy in the files app or...
Keep the song in the files app and delete the one in Audio Share? (I don’t want multiple copies taking up space)

Or, is there a better way/place to store my songs?

To the operating system, Audioshare is like an external drive. So it copies a file when trying to move it from "on my iPad" to another "location" (Audioshare, Dropbox, iCloud, a memory stick)

I usually store my files in Audioshare as it is convenient for me for previewing. But some use Files. It really depends on personal preference. Some audio files I store on iCloud when i will want access from other devices.

And make sure to backup your device.

  • Thank you with Tech I easily get overwhelmed and frustrated by too many options.

I like “this is how you do it” and that’s it. It makes it simple

Now I love my creative freedom for artistic endeavors, but for saving, storing, and sharing files I do not want creative, I want easy straightforward and efficient and only one way to do so I don’t screw it up 😬

  • As far as physical storage on your iPad goes, it doesn't matter whether the file is copied or not. Neither does it matter if you delete the copy in files. The iOS file system physically stores only one copy of the file, while maintaining "shortcuts" to the file that look just like copies.

@espiegel123 - you might say at this point that because AudioShare looks like an external file system, that it's actually stored twice. I used to think that. However it's been confirmed more than once by people who have tested it that this is not the case. As regards AudioShare, not having done a test satisfactory myself, I'll give that about a 99% confidence rating as regards AudioShare. You can decide for yourself. ;)
