Any AUv3 that will load a midi .MID file and output the midi?

Hi,
I've got a load of midi drumbeats patterns saved as .MID files. Breakbeat and Boom Bap, so the timing's all swung and organic in a way that's hard to program with a typical sequencer.
Are there any apps which will load as an AU and open these files, then play/loop them so I can use the patterns with other sounds and external gear whilst using a host like AUM to route the midi?

Comments

  • It seems Photon is almost perfect, but one of the reviews suggested that it can't be made to sync the play with the AU host, so you need to start/stop the midi playback manually?

  • "‎LK - for Ableton Live & Midi" can load Midi files into multiple tracks with MIDI channels assigned to each track and loop. Since it's targeted at Ableton users it has "activate" and
"deactivate" controls for live jamming. It should be great for starting/stopping drum loops.

Lot's of video demo's and training on Youtube to do due diligence before purchasing.

  • @McD , which of the LK IAPs do you need to accomplish that?

Matrix has the MIDI functionality and the user interface for starting/stopping

  • Awesome! That's the only LK IAP I've purchased thus far.

    Thanks!

Photon can be set to start with the host but it will play till the end of the file when the host is stopped (you can stop the file by pressing the stop button on Photon). It is annoying but works.

Thanks, that looks like it could be a great option :)

  • I don't quite understand how I've never come across LK before, but it's totally passed me by! :o

LK is the best option for that. Not AU, but I would generally import .mid into Xequence, actually, for arrangement

Maybe it wouldn't be as intuitive, and maybe too linear, but something like Sunvox can do that too (although I never routed midi out from it )

  • Bs16i main app supports general midi , and you can then route to other apps
The auv3 version I believe cannot import midi file

    A whacky solution
Is the drum perfect player (iPad only) which is auv3

(You have to load midi files in drum perfect pro)

You can then route midi notes

  • Photon does not deal with sustain CCs properly, which is why, for example, it has problems with midi from Piano Motifs app

What problems have you seen with Photon and MIDI CC 64? I am running a test now and it looks like all the events that I recorded are being sent out as recorded.

I've never had any problem with sustain in Photon. But maybe you're referring to sustain in relation to looping? I can see where that would be a problem if the sustain pedal was off at the beginning of a loop, then held on past the end so that there is no sustain off at the end of the loop. Probably when you loop around then, the sustain would be on at the beginning of the loop.

I ran into that issue when I wrote a midi looper in Mozaic. I had to handle sustain and note-off specially when looping. I'm guessing maybe Photon doesn't have that special handling for sustain? If so, I wonder if that would be the case for pitch-bend as well.

Sorry, not in the mood for testing today, so guesses only. B)
