sound magic spectral on ios? drambo? sunvox? fft/spectral prefab or roll your own auv3?

Hello!

https://www.michaelnorris.info/software/soundmagic-spectral

For a long time I have been a huge fan of michael norris' sound magic spectral package of plugins for OSX however I have never managed to find similar tools for ios

spectral bin shift
spectral shimmer
spectral weave

All of these plugs produce incredible sounds on desktop~ is anyone aware of anything that comes close that can be run as an auv3 on an iphone?

can drambo do fft/spectral processing?

Has anyone seen any sunvox implementations of anything similar?

  • Oh cool, freeware spectral! I would love some Au Spectral on iOS but alas there is only one standalone IAA spectral that I know of on iOS and it is sadly a fair bit flakey.

  • ApeSoft has Moebius (which offers some decent spectral possibilities) and Sparkle (which allows you to combine two sounds spectrally using FFT). Moebius is IAA/Audiobus only unfortunately, though it's very good. Sparkle is an AUV3.

I don't think SunVox supports spectral processing.

Moebius Lab can host AU apps and is a joint project with Amazingnoises and apeSoft. A look at the credits in the app reveals how close iOS/iPadOS developer community is.

As for SunVox, you might want to check out the SpectraVoice module.

  • ApeSoft also has ApeDelay with some spectral processing.

  • also this
very good but not updated (so - buggy...)

csSpectral is a real-time, Csound-based, multi-effects processor featuring a Streaming Phase Vocoder and six other FFT-based spectral algorithms. The diverse collection of real-time DSP effects let you create unique textures and timbres by transforming your voice, instrument, or iTunes library. csSpectral also supports Audiobus, allowing you to send and receive audio from other apps, making the processing possibilities nearly endless.

yah thats the one I was referring to. Not AU though. It actually was updated at one point to 64bit after the dev seemed like they wanted to clean it up and also seemed aware of the other issues but still it is not up to scratch for proper connectivity and does crash after a while. I do like it for making sample fodder but it takes annoying seemingly random-ish steps to do. So I can't recommend it.

  • Several IOS Apps come to mind for these effects:

    Eventide ShimmerVerb
    ApeSoft ApeDelay and ApeFilter
EOS 2 for massive reverbs (using DSP code from the "Valhallah Reverb" developer)

  • Just to prevent false expectations: EOS was an early work of Sean Costello and has nothing in common with the current Valhalla plugins (except the origin).

While these are all fine apps, most of them are not spectral. The one exception is ApeDelay, which is a spectral delay.

A reverb app which does use spectral stuff is Velvet Machine, which you might want to check out as it gives some really interesting results.

SunVox has an FFT based synth (Kind of an additive thing) with spectravoice, but it doesn't seem to do any FFT processing.

  • Nice to see these updated to 64bit... I wept when Catalina trashed them! (And everything else lol!)
