New Crudebyte iOS app approaching

  • @Clueless, I have to agree. Christian Schoenebeck is a really nice guy and I like the apps in general, but they seem behind the times. Even SWAM, which focuses on a pure acoustic monophonic instrument gives you great controls for the sound. Apps like ISymphonic could be so much more.
I doubt we’ll see it, tho.

Crudebytes doesn’t seem to be concerned with size. The Colossus Brown grand is what, 13 gbs on its own. Glad I got the 512 Pro2. One less concern.

  • In an ecosystem where there’s no way to upgrade HD space, and 32-64gb and 128gb storages are a norm, I really don’t understand the thinking with not making sample libraries as big as this able to be ran on an external hard drive. No one really wants to install/uninstall/install/uninstall/install to play a set of sounds. Not in 2021.

It’d be nice for them to update all their apps with that ability, especially since it’s high quality stuff. Gospel Musicians has done it across several apps. This should be something that every developer with a substantial app size does.

With Firewire, maybe this could be feasible. Moving 12GB from the "trailer" to the "front seat" requires pulling off the road. You need to have that 12GB handy when it's time to play
    and not just close by.

Time to read up on "unified memory architecture", I think. That RAM in these iPads/iPhones
is uniform for use by programs, data and "pianos". Desktops have more of a memory/storage hierarchy involving lives of data caches to support having data close when needed and farther away when not. On an iPad it's always right there ready to be swapped into service and copied into an audio buffer for rendering.

  • I'm downloading the Colossus "Brown" and my iPad is hostage to the event.... 12 hours and still running. If it fails... I start all over again.

The drama is did I pre-clear enough storage. You'd think it checks. My iPad wanted to do an OS update last night but it decided to let it finish first. I won't even touch the damn thing until it's done. It looks like it's 75% of the way done.

I paid $50 for this torture.

Man I bought one of his uprights cause I don’t want no snobby grand piano, and I could never get it to download. It would crawl without being able to background it for an hour, be at like 30%, then fail. I just took that one as a loss and not gonna buy anything more from them. I really really hate romplers anyway. It’s just the principle of them.

  • 14 hours... still waiting to have control of my iPad again.
These apps are like crack... they make you their bitch.
    Still, pretty decent crack.

You’re not selling it to me!

Not without also selling you my iPad with my iTunes ID. I'd adopt you but Crudebytes
doesn't offer Family IAP sharing. Korg does, I think.

So... did the download ever finish?

  • I’ve just bought the choir pack, and yes the downloads are pretty slow. I’m on a gigabit connection (so pretty fast) and 3gb takes around ten minutes.

So if you bought the full collection it would take a couple of hours to download it all, even on a really fast connection.

Not sure how they’re hosting this but it could definitely be a lot better.

  • Well the app doesn't work in NS2, the AUv3 loads but you can't change the preset, only the default preset ever loads, none of the IAPs.
