LK vs Drambo for AUM MIDI Sequencing | haQ attaQ

  • Using Drambo as a MIDI Looper in AUM is SO EASY. And I love... easy. I don't have to learn much about Drambo or load my favorite Synths and FX into Drambo. Just use it a a MIDI FX app... @jakoB_haQ's instructions in this video are easy to follow. AUM handles the selection of the MIDI channels per synth and everything happens in real time with intant audio feedback.

If you own Drambo and AUM I recommend this approach... if you have external MIDI controllers there's even more value by watching on to the MIDI Learn section of Drambo
    for external Live performing.

A few minutes and you'll have a whole new way to loop MIDI. Pay attention to the instructions on setting loop lengths.

  • Although I can appreciate @jakoB_haQ preferring to use external controllers... I tried his same setup using Drambo for the looping but ALSO using LK for it's built-in controller panels for keyboards, chords, mapped buttons to toggle play/record, etc. to do essentially the same thing that he's doing with the external controllers. It was easy to use midi learn within AUM to set everything up.

You can have LK as your overall controller for AUM loaded into AUM. Or, you can do the same thing using LK in standalone and not even look at AUM after it's set up as Jakob prefers in his video.

So, using Dambo and LK is actually a pretty nice set-up. IMO

    Glad I have both :)

So I've tried using the LK midi app together with AUM as some of you suggested to me and it is a good app. However LK is not working out fro me, but Drambo on the other hand does. Why is it that I like using Drambo for MIDI Sequencing inside AUM instead of LK? Watch and find out.

FYI, an LK update is in the works (which is likely to drop soon) that has MIDI learn.

Nice. They seem to be very responsive.

I'd love they to add importing single channels from MIDI files since many apps produce
Multi-channel MIDI files... from the days of General MIDI. I'd like to import some General MIDI files and assign them to 8-16 channels in LK easily.

  • Okay... now that LK has been revamped with controllers (like NanoXXX studio) and MIDI learn, and other things...

  • Let's not forget that LK was originally made to be an Ableton Live remote control in the first place.
After a long time, Imaginando have decided to give its users local MIDI sequencing functionality inside the Matrix module on top and for free (if you had the Matrix IAP already)
And I must say they have done a fantastic job doing that:

    • LK can record extremely long clips.
    • Editing and Automation of velocity, pitch bend, program change and MIDI CC works well
    • The sequencer operation needs some getting used to but it allows for Ableton'esque live MIDI clip arrangements
    • The piano roll is definitely one of the better implementations out there
