Flip Update 1.0.5

I remember a few folks mentioning the need to manually set a sample’s root note. Looks like they also beefed up the sample browser.

  • The app progressing nicely!

'Trim' before saving the sample would be a nice addition for starters.
(This since the start & end points are note saved with the file).

The app currently records & exports in 16-bit so I hope that will be addressed in a future update as well.
When using an external audio interface it could be handy to be able to select & monitor the input...
...and choose between mono & stereo recording.

But hey, 2021 is still early so anything can happen.

Even with the limitations it's a fun app to mess around with.
I dumped a bunch classic Korg ES1 factory samples to it to get things going ;)

  • very cool. now if they can add some more bars to the timeline, and make it Au, or IAA. it will be very very productive.

I just dump the loops and use the file player in AUM and spice them up with Koala FX.

Merging both Koala and Flip into one AUv3 'performance sampler' could be fun but is very unlikely to happen.

    Cheers!

AUv3 is on the roadmap last I heard. As is the option to pitch shift samples.

  • If they make this auv3 with MidiOut and allow you to have 'n' long tracks, we'll have the modstep 2.0, we've all been pining for :P

  • With AUv3 support we'd have to 'sacrifice' the tight Files.app integration since an AUv3's can not directly access files in stored on the iPad but needs to be stored in their own 'storage container' thus duplicating samples no-no-no-no and no!

Hopefully iOS15/iPadOS15 will loosen things up...

LK Auv3 can access files stored anywhere on the iPad when you select "Import midi".

Import yes, but when you use the tape-recorder or record samples in Flip the files goes directly to Flip folder in Files.app without need to select where to save them. That folder is also instantly available to all other apps on the device.

If we would use the record & tape features in the AUv3 we would have to manually 'export' the files...
Also it's very easy to just drop a folder in the Flip folder to 'batch import' samples and have them always available, no need to import to every AUv3 instance.

The only way to make this somewhat 'seamless' would be to do what AudioShare does and create a storage provider extension that can be accessed from Files.app sidebar.

As said, I hope iOS15/iPadOS15 will add some major improvements to file management and allow AUv3's to access the files I already have on my iPad without having to 'import' them into another 'sandbox'.

With the current state of iOS, AUv3 and file-management AUv3 samplers will be 'crippled' one way or the other...

    Cheers!

I hope iOS 15 will definitely kill IAA, the only way to have more AUv3 and some old IAA converted to AUv3.
I also benefit for more space on n’y iPad for lots of app I don’t use anymore awaiting for hypothetical update.
    😀

so what is your method for getting the loop made in flip. and sending to AUM for fileplayer ?

Tap that and browse to the Flip folder and select a file :)

  • I hope Flip gets more banks - seems bit limited just 9 pads. Is slice to pads on its way?

  • Need the three in live sampling page.

    • sample Delete button
    • One touch normaliser / Gain
    • Trim
  • Is is possible to hookup external MIDI Keyboards, PADs and Controllers?
I paired my Korg nanoKEY Studio with my iPhone, but there is no note incoming on Flip :-(

    Updated..

    Edit… looks massive…

Never knew IAA could do this…

  • Has the developer said if they are working on making it AU or not?

They have said that they would like to.

They have said that they would like to.

They said they were planning on working on it when it first launched. Given that ElasticDrums never made it to AU, I’m not holding my breath.

I really just don’t understand why we don’t have the ability to pitch samples without changing the speed.

    Same here

  • wow this is such a great update for workflow

  • does anyone know. is there a way to copy on pad to another pad?

Seems there is a new update that fixed the iaa issues..

Samu is this the case?. This is what I thought but then read about the Gospel Musician app that can stream from external drives and/or any folder… https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/46029/thumb-drives
I was surprised to read that, I thought that indeed the sandbox thing was a limitation imposed by iOS.

Depends on how the app is programmed...
As an example AUM's file-player can link to any file regardless of where it is stored, not just files in AudioShare.

I don't have any of the newer GM apps and thus have no clue how they organize the files but I suspect the user has to approve access to the files on the external device.

Also if I recall correctly there's an iOS version limit to allow the files to be on an external device so even when the app says iOS11 compatible it will likely not include the external storage functions.

As long as Flip can avoid keeping files in a separate AUv3 'sandbox' and leave them were the hare I'm ok with it :)

    Cheers!

I think it’s a big deal and all this matter in very unclear. To me having to copy the same samples and files over and over again is such a waste of time and over complicated mess. Import in Drambo, copy the same files to Zenbeats, AudioLayer, Cubasis… it’s just wrong.
But it’s entirely unrelated to Flip… sorry!

No worries, we all have different ways of working...
...I usually keep the files in the app that creates them (BM3, Gadget, Cubasis etc).

And as long as the file is accessible using Files.app I'm ok with it.

The mindset goes back to my tracker roots where the sample is always copied into the project folder/file.
This allows me to mess with the sample as much as needed without fear of trashing the original which would happen with linked files. Change once, mess up everywhere unless the app creates a duplicate file when performing actions that mess with the source.

My main library is stored either on my Mac or NAS and I can access it using Files.app and its 'Connect to Server' when needed.
Thankfully I don't rely on gigabytes of sample-libraries as I prefer to create my own patches and sample when needed...

    Cheers!

  • I can’t get the metronome working. It’s on in settings but recording does not start it.
Also I think it would be much better if the pads were flashing on the ‘controls’ page. If you have previously held the dice to randomise all the pads - you really have no idea what you are randomising/pitching/filtering etc.

  • Is it still limit to 8 bars or whatever it was
