I think tahiche meant that NS2 has no audio tracks.
Now I can maybe return something to you... I did that with Zenbeats. Basically it worked but there were some problems that I could not solve and also some short comings of Zenbeats that makes this combo troublesome. My solution was utilizing an audio device with virtual audio channels (iConnectAudio2+) to route audio from AUM to Zenbeats. Probably that could also be done with Sonobus that should have a low latency when server and client are on the same device - the iPad. Anyway, first of all Zenbeats can not deal with more than one audio device at the same time and there is no per track audio routing. Means you can only record one AUM instrument at once. Okay, at least it’s possible to do one instrument after the other. But the real showstopper for me is that the sync with ableton link is not fulfilling my needs. The tempo is synced well but the recording from AUM in Zenbeats always starts too early, about a quarter or half note - I did not check it exactly but for sure it is not sitting on this bar where it should be, so I have to correct every take. Well, link does not provide song position, only tempo and start/stop.
Is audio editing in cubasis really so bad? I just bought it and trusted in its professional features.... I looked up the manual. There is time stretch and pitch on the audio parts and the editor sports Trim, Erase, Reverse, Normalize and Fade. What are you missing?
Regarding jamming in clip-mode at the moment there is nothing that beats AUM with LK. When I connect my Launchpad mini mk2 it is recognized automatically by LK and it pretty much does the same as with ableton live. I can jam without touching the iPad at all. The missing part for me is to have audio tracks and of cause decent audio editing. Anyone did this with Audio Mobile and could share the experiences?
@krassmann this is cheating!. I did consider getting that interface but ended up getting a Zedi10.
Yes it’s bad,
Terrible: No cross fade between clips, no merging clips... that’s terrible and unacceptable IMO.
Bad: no in place bounce/render.
Disappointing: no transient editing or any way to fix a bad take or bad note...
Say you have an excellent guitar take, with a really nice vibe, but you hit a wrong note... How do you fix that in Cubasis?. You’d need to break the take into little clips, move them around... but no way to stitch them back together or even cross fade to make the editing not pop and clip... normalizing, reversing or trimming is nothing, even Aum can do that, we’re talking about Digital Audio Workstations. Btw, it’s not only Cubasis, Zenbeats sucks too, and BM3... I wonder about audio mobile or n-track... I’ve spent enough on daws.
I wrote about Auria in the past, it’s a pity. Auria is VERY capable and “pro”, way ahead of Cubasis in every aspect I can think of. Busing, groups... amazing. But it looks too much like Protools, I think they’re missing the point in UI decisions and I think that’s a huge weight.
BM3 is also a special case. The best sampler in iOS, Clip and timeline modes, an amazing set of features (except audio editing), but what Protools is to Auria, Akai MPC is to Beeatmaker 3. I just can’t click with the “pads for everything” approach, and I don’t really dig the design either. Zenbeats is my fav look wise and I love how agile it is, with the step sequencer. But routing (or lack therof) sucks.
If you put together a Frankenstein daw taking things from each , you’d have an amazing product.
Btw. I’m also missing a drum machine that convinces me. Similar case where a Frankenstein would yield my needed workflow.
Just use Cubasis 3. It ticks all the boxes you’re asking for.
Yes, I know... it's so versatile, I love this device. I got one second hand for about 110 EUR. Anyway, as it is discontinued it might stop working with next major iOS release. As I said, you could try to do that with Sonobus, but would be quite a hacky solution unless they would make use of AUv3 state saving. Honestly I think Apple should bake virtual channels into Core Audio.
Did you check out Sugar Bytes DrumComputer? The standalone is a free download. It's a-ma-zing. For me it's the final solution for my drum machine needs.
Like @Svetlovska I can recommend Audio Evolution. It has all basic needs and is easy to learn and operate. The developer is replying very fast when you have a issues or questions. Also the price is very acceptable.
I have Cubasis 3. Audio editing is very, extremely, limited. Also no Clip mode, Previously I owned Cubasis 2. I’m not saying it’s bad, but really I can’t see it being better than Zenbeats in anything except maybe routing and AudioBus integration. Auria seems more capable and featured in every aspect. Can’t see how it ticks the boxes.
Yes, I own the free version. It looks good but no multi-samples. I tend to like samples better than synthetic drums, just personal taste. Not many drum apps feature multiple velocity samples. I’m using Drambo for drums but it’s a bit overkill, takes quite some time to setup a complete drum with all tracks, mappings, etc.
As of now, I agree with @krassmann, for me LK + AUM are the most fun and refreshing combo. If only there was a proper audio clip auv3 recorder/player (and I’ve tried everything I could get my hands on)... Maybe the new Loopy will fill that gap.
Thanks all, for the workflow that is probably going to be best for me and for @Svetlovska points too think I will give Audio Evolution a go.
@NimboStratus @tahiche Sure thing. The beauty of iOS is that there is a solution for everyone to enjoy. I'm a big Drambo and AUM user myself and am always inspired with the workflow.
Yeah totally, like the openness, mix and match that AU etc offers. No right way, well the right way is the way that anyone just did it. 😜
Correct, it doesn’t support audio tracks but has a good grip of audio mix down options.
hi I'm new to daw on ios, but I'm looking for a daw that I can use together with the elektron analog rytm as well as Au3v plugins together with audio recording capbilites. Is Audio Evolution capable working with routing midi out? like program change, mute channels, even automate CC values?
There are a few Audio Evolution threads where an expert can provide application specific advice:
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/comment/1175587#Comment_1175587
The developer of the app comments there as @dwrae. I’m pretty sure MIDI out is a standard feature but I’m sure you will
Have additional questions and this thread is too ambiguous.
If you already use Logic Pro on desktop, use GarageBand on iOS.
