Kauldron Troubles
Using Kauldron (in NS2, which I hope isn’t the issue) I’m noticing a huge click when transitioning from one note to another (using glide) - it really stuck out once I had a compressor (and a WOOTT!) on there but I can’t find any way to get rid of it. Anyone else have a similar issue with this workhorse synth? I wanted to post it on the Yonac forum but couldn’t get past the security question to sign up!! (Write the name of the company backwards, 5 letters 😂)

this is not a direct answer to your question (sorry) but instead a word of warning...
WoOTt is a fantastic plugin, but it can also expose weaknesses in synths by exposing clicks and aliasing. this is particularly true with NS2's internal synth(!!), and may be what you are experiencing with Kauldron.
i've never noticed those clicks when using it myself in the past, but I'm happy to try testing it out in various hosts (Ns2, AUM, BM3) again when I have a spare moment later.
Yeah I’m not sure if it’s the patch (if I turn the in built filter to low pass it loses the click somewhat but I’m not using the filter normally) or what, but even turning off all the Effect plugins I notice the click is still there - im basically following a Serum patch tutorial as closely as I can in Kauldron, I might try with Magellan 2 (my other workhorse synth) and see if I get the same clicking
@KRPT I don't know this synth, but it sounds like the new note is starting with a fixed phase (maybe zero), instead of picking up from the previous note. This would produce a sudden jump in the continuous waveform, heard as a click. Have you tried turning Off the Phase Reset switch? Also maybe the Osc Sync switch.
Thanks man, I’ll try this - there’s definitely an Osc Sync switch, however turning this off dramatically changed the sound - I’ll search for a phase reset though
Phase reset and Osc Sync both turned off - click is fixed but the problem now is the timbre of the sound changes with each pass so dramatically that it’s almost completely different each time, this could be due to the amount of cross modulation going on elsewhere though (BLEASS filter movement coinciding with the now unsynced oscillators) - a bit of resampling might be the key to this problem though. Thanks for the help!
Maybe you could leave the Osc Sync turned on. It does affect the timbre since it sort of makes the second oscillator generate both frequencies. And its effect on the click may be covered by its other effects.
@KRPT
can you share the Serum tutorial you are basing this patch on - I'd like to recreate the issue and see if I can suggest any workarounds?
Sure, it’s this one:
Of course, it won’t get too close to the exact sound in the tutorial using Kauldron but I wanted to see exactly HOW close I could get, using none of Kauldron’s in-house effects
In NS2 I used a Waveshaper on the Tube setting, a BLEASS filter (which unfortunately doesn’t restart its phase on the LFO but it’s the best auto filter I have at the moment, any other recommendations much appreciated!), and the WOOTT - the author of the video uses 3(!) instances of OOT with the same settings but this is clearly overkill
I didn’t get as far as automating the band pass filter, but if you manage to get a decent result, post it up and I’ll post mine!
