AUM disappointed linking with Cubasis 2
Hi
Have to say not happy with AUM
It doesn’t load correctly when I’ve spent time putting an audio units instrument IAA on each of the 8 channels permitted.
1. They don’t always load again
2. Some apps need restarting
3. Some apps don’t play in AUM unless open in their window inside AUM.
See pic.
Considering move to laptop and Ableton etc....too many instabilities on iOS.
Sorry for moan
Any ideas to improve welcome..
Thanks..

which ipad do u have ?
IAA is deprecated. Apple does not even trust in it. If you continue to use it you invite an increase in overall instability and general crappiness to your music life.
Which is not to say iOS music is perfect without it.
For higher IAA success rate launch the apps prior to recalling the AUM session that uses them.
I know Cubasis can not directly record audio from AUv3's but at least it's quite good at freezing them tracks to audio.
iSEM, iSymphonic, Model D and Sythmaster One are all AUv3's so midi-sequencing them in Cubasis and then freezing to audio would be the way to go here at least until Cubasis 3 (in this case since Cubasis 2 is no longer updated with new features) gets proper audio & midi routing...
That is no what deprecated means.
There are plenty of IAA apps among the most stable apps and plenty of unstable AUv3
There are reasons to prefer AUv3 in many cases but not always. In many cases the best options are IAA.
There is no reason to exaggerate by implying that using IAA apps is inherently crappy.
Thanks for useful comments..
In pic...why can’t I reopen channel 6 for example?
It seems to load some channels..then stops...can’t usually do IAA AUM channels....that is all 8....
Can’t reopen again in AUM or Cubasis 2....
And trying again..all channels open...it’s so unpredictable....
Apparently they are discouraging people from using it. Apple is abandoning it. Close enough.
Very true. But as things progress it will likely fall apart. Doom! DOOM!
The above screenshot speaks volumes.
My question is...
...why even bother sending the midi thru AUM to an AUv3 when you could load the AUv3's directly inside Cubasis?!
If audio is needed just 'Freeze' the track.
Mixing in AUM just seems to be an exercise in making things more complicated than then need to be?!
Cheers!
And there is that whole laptop / Ableton solution proposed in the initial post.
Yeah, and I get that and I'm already using my iPad as a 'sound module' for Renoise and Logic Pro...
Hopefully the iPad DAWs 'mature' a bit during 2021 but it will like take a few years with the current phase things are progressing, you know like a few BM3 updates to fix some annoyances, promised audio tracks for NS2 (which I recall would come after the impulse reverb which has not yet been released yada yada) and Cubasis 3 with support for multi input/out AUv3 which will likely happen 2022 or something.
Drambo is one of the very few apps that keep me hooked in a good way but it's not for everyone.
The only thing I'm actually looking forward to is what Apple will do with iOS/iPadOS15 and what will happen to the 'ports'
.
Cheers!
As long as I am not commuting I am just keeping my eye on things (and indulging in general snarkiness). At this point, In my mind what I would love on iOS is well within the realm of possible but so many people want so many different things that the odds of it showing up are pretty astronomical. Even when a 'BIG' player gets in there is always so much that needs to wind up on the cutting room floor. So eh, I don't have to commute anymore and can get my tiny slice of desktop time in before work now so that's good.
Hi Samu...in answer to your question..CPU problems in Cubasis 2 is why I use AUM for audio units MIDI...
Although Moog D is main culprit
As @Samu has said, but it bears repeating: Always, always, always open any IAA apps that are hosted in another app before opening the app that hosts them. It won't always work still, but it will be better.
As for IAA being depreciated, I think what it means the most for you @IOSSOS is the situation is not going to get better. Apple isn't going to improve the IAA support and may not even fix bugs if introduced in iOS upgrades. You're also using a "depreciated" version of Cubasis. So Cubasis isn't going to get better either. They'll keep it running and fix most bugs, but that's it.
Not what you want to hear, I'm sure, but that's the reality.
Thanks wim and others...
Now can get IAA on the 8 channels each time with an auv instrument...
But now getting stuttering when recording vocals......latency issues? Have settings at best I think....AUM meter generally not above 50pc when apps windows are closed within AUM...
Ideas anyone to improve this so clear vocals signal?
Thanks again...
Mmm....AUM can’t cope..DSP meter minimum 65%...and jumps up into red with ease....it’s just too much for my iPad Pro even....8 tracks of IAA apps into Cubasis 2 plus two audio tracks...just get some stuttering often....oh well...will experiment...still lots of fun to be had....
