How to know where to use a AUv3 in AUM?
Let me try and explain. I got Fugue Machine and loaded as an interact audio the. Couldn’t get it to work in AUM, ie so AUM transports controlled it and it didn’t trigger a synth.
Then I added as a audio unit midi processor and it now works as expected.
It kinda seems a little clearer now but how come there are two ways of adding and how do I know which way to use for any given app?
Is it simply a question of thinking what I want it to do, ie trigger midi as opposed to just outputting audio itself?
Thanks all as usual

App authors define the capabilities their app has, Instrument, Generator, Effect, MIDI Processor, etc. AUM simply believes this, and offers the app in the appropriate menus. But some of these capabilities may be wrong, only apply to certain app features, or may be needed to "fool" certain AUv3 hosts. As you suggest, you need to decide what you want the app to do, and look for it in the appropriate menu.
Short answer - don’t use IAA unless necessary. It’s notoriously flaky/crashy most of the time. IAA was the only way to use audio apps together until AUv3 (audio units) came along. It’s not going to be supported by Apple soon.
Soon might not be the case. We don't know that support will be pulled soon only that it will happen in some future OS generation. It could be around for years or end in iOS 15 (the latter seems unlikely).
