  • I got it, its great. Been playing the Adventure Time theme to myself on repeat (its just G D C D). However I can't seem to find any BG Audio mode? Is it just me? I'm certainly not getting any response when I try and connect it via JM, I suspect its because the app is stopping when its getting backgrounded. Also touching Hardware midi instantly crashes the app for me lol, so don't do that.

  • David, have you tried putting Futulele in the input of AB and trying to connect to JM?

  • Got it working with JM that way David.

  • thanks for the heads up!

  • Genius workaround Morris. That worked. Definitely easier to play in Futelele though! Try this though, add Futelele as the hardware midi controller, then press record in JM ensuring background mode is on, switch to futelele, play, come back, and its transposed it all to guitar tab! Unfortunately though it still doesn't seem to work very well but its an interesting experiment :)

Also, try this, this'll blow your mind. A beta tester showed me this. Have you got iSongWriter? Generate a random song in iSongWriter. Press the speaker in the bottom right, then switch out one of the instrument sounds for JM IAA node. Press record in JM. Press play in iSongWriter. Instant guitar song tabbed out in JM lol.

Yes, any AB supported app that doesn't have audio background, will play in background if in AB slot. I do have iSongwriter. I'll experiment with both. Sounds cool. Also, Pearl Guitar is by same Futele Dev, and can be used this way.

@JamMaestro: does JM allow me to import and export tabs and midi into or out of other tab/notation apps like Progression, TablEdit or Guitar Pro? That might persuade me to buy your app.

  • Hmm, maybe an idea for a future update?

  • @Munibeast of course, but I can't do everything at once :) That last update took 7 months, full time 7 days a week with almost no income and living off savings. That can't go on forever, the app has to support itself at some stage. The features you request aren't any small feats either, theres no API to do that, from what I can tell you have to roll your own midi import/export, something which I currently know nothing about. So yes I'd love to include it one day, but I have to live and eat too.

People said the same things when the iPhone version came out, "looks good but needs an iPad version before I'll be really interested", so the goal posts moved again and I worked towards that. But if I can't persuade you to part with three dollars for the current feature set then maybe you're not the target user anyway... ! :)

  • Cool trick with iSongwriter, but I couldn't tell how, or if it's possible, to assign different midi channels for each part in iSongwriter.

  • @funjunkie27 unfortunately it uses IAA not Midi, so you can only connect it once. Would have to play it several times, once with each if you wanted to do all perhaps.

  • ??? I was connected through midi. I got the notes into JM on ch 1. That was the melody track in iSongwriter. I couldn't get the other track over though.

  • Hmmm, well the way JM works as an IAA node at the moment is it basically ignores the channel and sends all midi information to the current selected instrument. Figured you could just set the other instruments up for midi in if you wanted. So does iSongWriter work by sending midi messages on channels 1-4 for the different instruments? I could probably add an option in the midi options page that says "send all IAA midi messages to current selected instrument" and if you toggle it off and will go with whatever manually specified midi channels you specified for each instrument.

  • ISongwriter only seems to send midi for two of the for parts, and I haven't found any way to set the midi channel for those parts. I set JM midi instruments (1 for ea part) to receive on midi channel 1 & 2, but it only seems to be aggregating both parts into ch 1.
