Aum starts

How do I start individual AUM nodes at different times in the same session?

You would need to set the nodes to be controlled by MIDI and use some sort of sequencer to send the MIDI needed to do that.

What are you going to have loaded in those nodes?

Are you talking about the AUM File Player?

Yes sir...i would like to load multiple files but start them at different times manually...

@BITCRUSHER : Load up your file players with the selected wavs, zero everything, dial in your levels, effects etc, set midi channels if relevant, and have the AUM transport stopped.

You can use the beat offset on each channel to start them at a predetermined number of beats into the piece, and/ or manually swipe them in and out of the channel (load the file player, then swipe left, set the transport running, swipe right to drop it into play) and/ or trigger these events (and mutes and solos) via a midi note event from a controlling keyboard, midi lfo, or pre prepared sequence in something like Atom.

Or any combination thereof, looped or single shot, in sync or not.

I tend to loop all my file players, mess with their speed relative to each other, use MIDILFOs to handle the ‘manual’ switching in and out of the players, and maybe use midi probability gates and Perforator or Koshiba to respectively gate the midi and audio.

Thank u...that is just the tip I was looking for...good karma to u✨

  • On top of the method above, you could make clips inside LK, and add on/off or volume states in the automation panel, and by launching different clips you change the settings for many clips at the same time. Takes a fair bit of fiddling drawing the automation though.

  • We all love to fiddle...that’s what it’s all about...nice one Frankie.

  • @Frank303
    Good tips
Can you elaborate more on how that’s done please
Even just the on/off of bit, I just want to be able to start stop drum loops in AUM, I have drum loop loaded in a channel in AUM, just want to trigger the on/off state the drum loop via LK
    Many thanks

  • Basically, have Lk as midi. Route to AUM midi in the Matrix. In the track with the loop, map 'loop enable to a cc (not a note) and a channel. In LK, set a track to midi out to the chosen channel. In the automation panel, first add the cc, the draw two nodes at the top. When clip is launched, the loop will play but not instantly but next loop. Experiment with the placing of the nodes, it's kinda hard to explain the behavior in combination with clip launching :)
I add a screenshots of the setup later, it's a bit crappy I'm in a van for 5 hours of travel, in the Philippines 😂

  • Thanks @Frank303
Will try in a few hours
Thanks for the super quick reply

    Thanks so much
    Given this a try now
It seems to start late, etc
And also if I hop between scenes in LK the old loop in a previous scene sometimes keeps playing
I will keep trying as I could be at fault
But thank you so much, you have sent me in the right direction
Anymore tips on this set up would be appreciated

Yeah it’s a bit weird with starting, takes an extra bar before it starts. What about Chord Poly Pad? If you have it already, you map notes to pads, and have the ‘enable’ for the tracks mapped to notes. And you can have pads with custom chords, meaning you can start/stop several clips. Works in Xequence AU Pads too, but no chords. Kb1 idem dito.

You might find it more straightforward to use a sampler like AudioLayer that does disk streaming and trigger your samples from a sequencer like LK when you want them to play. It might be less frustrating than trying to calculate the beat offsets, etc.

  • You can automate that with midi or do it semi-manually via AUM MidiMixer by 4Pockets and snapshots.

  • Thanks everyone
Gonna play again when the kids go to bed
All of a sudden things are falling into place
    Lots of options
    Thanks again

    What is LK?

A really great MIDI sequencer AU that can run in AUM and does midi clip launching in a way that's similar to Ableton Live.
