Audio Interface for Ipad Air (4th generation)
Hello everybody!
Before I created this question, I searched for the answer here and on the internet, but found nothing. I didn't find a device that was claimed to support the new ipad air.
Does anyone have any experience connecting a guitar to the new ipad air 4th generation?
Thank you in advance for your response!

why shouldn't this ipad support all the interfaces that all the other ipads support? Any class compliant interface should work, right?
I bought an Air 4 recently and because it’s Usb C I switched my interface to a Motu M2. I can plug it directly into my Air 4 via a Usb C to Usb C cable that comes with my IPad. It won’t charge the IPad but it works and the Motu is a good interface for guitar and monitors, headphones.
Thank you, dear friend! All the best this year!
I'm actually curious about this. I have two iPads with Lightning connection and CCK that work fine with my two audio interfaces.
It seems like I read about a lot of problems with USB-C connections to audio interfaces. Or am I imagining things?
What are you looking for in an interface? If you just want to use your guitar, and you'd be satisfied with an instrument-input and an output + monitoring output, the irig hd 2 would be worth checking out... this one is super compact and can even be powered by a lightning device without problems. You can easily put it in your pocket and take it with you to a jam session.
A small step up in price but a great step up in features: Behringer UMC204HD. 2x Instrument + XLC input, 2x effects loop between preamp and a/d converter, 2x stereo line out, Midi in, Midi out. If you need even more ins/outs, there's also the 404HD. Those are some of the cheapest on the market but for the price they are excellent.
I’ve been using the focusrite 2i2 both with my old lightning based iPad and more recently with the Air 4. Aside from having to get a usb c hub to replace the CCK all works fine. I got a powered hub but you need to realise such hubs draw a fair amount of power (I think mine draws about 15w) so factor in a bigger power supply than the 20w brick in the box.
Focusrite. Never had an issue with any Apple product and their interfaces. Any of the latest generation (3rd gen) Scarletts. They are USB-C and come with AC adapters if they need one.
All class compliant interfaces should work whether they are lightning or usb-c.
Recent reports about interfaces no longer working as expected (f.e Line6, Apogee) are related to MFi certification.
While CC means no specific driver is needed for generic operation, MFi goes a bit further than generic enabling additional stuff (f.e direct access to preamp gain directly from DAW). In a way MFi certificate (a chip inside lightning connector) is an additional hardware dongle that enables extra functionality.
With lightning phasing out goes MFi as well. In some cases that means ’extra functionality’ will no longer work (but still operational), in other cases it could render the whole unit useless.
This wasn’t the first time Apple went this way and it won’t be the last. So, my advice would be...
