Mic sensitivity in different iOS DAWs
Hello.
Cubasis 2 seems more sensitive than Garage Band or BeatMaker 3.
I have Rode NT1A running into channel 1 of Zoom U24 with phantom power on....
For Cubasis really have to reduce input levels a lot..
Still get stuttering of signal...but not in other DAWs mentioned...
Doesn’t help with traffic 70 meters away ....
Any similar experiences or suggestions welcome..
Thanks...

BeatMaker 3 doing same as Cubasis 2 now...mic stuttering....
Maybe it's just different kind of metering?
I know BM3 can be toggled between Peak and RMS metering in the mixer.
Don't know what GarageBand or Cubasis use but I suspect GarageBand is using RMS which makes it easier to set the average input level.
Cubasis is most likely using Peak metering on its meters which gives the impression that it's more sensitive since the meter jumps up & down a lot more.
I guess the best way is to not look at the numbers but use the ears.
Cubasis also defaults to 16-bit recordings, not that it should matter that much.
Cheers!
Don't know if the Zoom U2A responds to software volume on the iOS devices.
(If it does there's a 'mic/gain slider' in Cubasis under audio settings)
AFAIK there should be no difference between various hosts/DAWs if external audio interface is in use.
Never experienced anything like this. Are you sure there is nothing else that is different across hosts/settings?
Thanks for your help...for the time being lowering mic input...and trying for quieter environment....
Will look into metering options..
I would suggest a little test: in each daw record the same (whatever, singing, guitar playing, your trombone...) through your Mic and interface trying to sing the same for each daw with interface levels unchanged and no effects, just raw input. Then look at the wav files for a hotter signal. I actually did this for an acoustic guitar strum plugged into my Motu M2 into Cubasis 3, Auria Pro, n-Track Pro, and Audio Evolution. In my test CB3 showed up a little hotter than the others, with Auria sounding cleaner. No explanation just a fun test. I love and use all of them.
For noise I always use Brusfri app.
