FX rack recommendations

Thinking come Feb I might have funds for an FX unit. So aside from the fact that one is an indie dev and the other a company, functionally, feature wise and sound quality which would you recommend ?

Nurack?

Mixbox CS?

Other?

As always thanks. Oh and ideally only AUv3

  • Huge fan of MixBox CS... 70 Studio products emulated for $40 (unless they have raised the price).

NuRack is fun to build with too.

iFX Rack covers all the right bases too.

But MixBox has made me stop using a lot of truly wonderful FX apps because it covers their space in a single instance. Good programming code too because it doesn't seem to eat a lot of CPU for the sonic benefit.

If you don't just want a linear chain of effects but also want routing options, I'd also look at miRack. I prefer it over Nurack but of course one would have to get along with the eurorack style... another option would be drambo which you can also use to build auv3 effects/effect chains, but it is also so much more.

  • I know it's not for everyone, but I've had quite a lot of fun with iFX Rack, bought on sale of course, with the expansion IAP. Documentation is nonexistent, but I've pieced some info together from the original VFX Rack docs and some of the open source components included. The expansion includes some nice cab IRs, and a huge collection of IR reverbs.

  • I’m in a similar position as the OP. I don’t have Drambo yet, but probably will by the end of the day. Mixbox CS looks nice but isn’t universal and is $50USD. For that money I can get iFX Rack (plus IAP) AND miRack AND NuRack and have some change left over. And they are all universal. That being said, without a very convincing sales pitch, I probably won’t be going with Mixbox. Assuming I get Drambo, how many or which of the other three options would be unnecessary?

What did you decide on @NimboStratus? Are you happy with that decision?

    Thank you!
