Piano motifs help
Hi,
I have piano motifs riff, I’ve managed to play retro piano in AUM using the midi out. However what’s the easiest way to get the midi saved and imported into a ‘midi’ trigger app so I can close piano motifs and good about with it in midi and audio etc
I can save and/or share from piano motifs but how to then import and into what sort of app so I can sync in AUM?
Thanks as always.
Comments
LK can import the midi loops, and syncs with AUM
Also so does NanoStudio 2
But to get NanoStudio 2 to run in sync with AUM load it as an input in audiobus and AUM as the output
Am sure there are more ways to do it
Atom. I record the midi in Atom to then loop & trigger a synth or drums. Atom is limited to 40 bars, but it will fit most motifs. Atom 2 is due to be released in the very near future but no exact date, which is going to be a massive upgrade on an absolutely amazing and ever useful Atom 1. Been waiting for that, it’s going to be a must have app for sure. I think the developer intends on doing an upgrade bundle to give previous owners a chance at a discount, not sure. We shall see...
@Poppadocrock how do you record it in Atom? Is it a case of hitting record in Tom then play in motif, stop record and trim the beginning and end gaps?
@NimboStratus
Yes sir, (edit -or mam, lol, sorry about that) I use 2 instances of atom, 1 receives AUM Virtual Midi on channel 1 only, which is the melody, and the other Atom receives AUM Virtual Midi on channel 2 only, which is the accompaniment. I then connect one synth to atom instance 1 and one synth to atom instance 2. So I have each part of the Piano Motif, motif, recorded, then playing separately. Make sure record is on inside both instances of atom. Then hit play in AUM, to start the host. Then app switch to Piano motifs and hit play, when motif is over I switch back to AUM, and adjust the midi in atom accordingly, and boom. Make sure settings are setup in PM app, and midi connections made correctly in AUM. In Atom app You can double click to select all the midi inside each instance, and also look at the midi notes in Atom instance 2, inside Atom instance 1. The 3layers over a line Button in Top right next to music note which shows your scale options on the piano roll. I usually turn off Quantize or bump it up to 1/32 - 1/64 in Atom, to help get every note correctly and pick up some swing if added. I don’t think there are any notes played shorter then 1/32, correct me if I’m wrong... not certain.
Also make sure the tempos match between your host and piano motifs for the recording phase, once recorded you can play back at any tempo you choose.... and atom can change speeds, outside of host so you can play the midi at half speed or even backwards. Theres no time sync, or Link, in PMotifs, so you just manually set the tempo’s the same.
Check out Gaz’s fantastic Piano Motifs tutorial on YouTube. He makes it simple using Photon AU.
Thanks @Poppadocrock and @StudioSisu - will give it a go, ideally I want to record direct into Evolution (yet to buy it so don’t know if it’s possible but would like to know if it can ). I don’t want to buy Atom to do it when there is a piano roll in Evoltuion.
Thnx! I later had to abandon using Photon for this unfortunately as it doesn't handle sustain cc notes properly. Such a pity, hoping this will get fixed in a future Photon update, the dev is aware of it.
Yea, I can’t speak for AEM specifically, but you should be able to do in any DAW or host that has Virtual Midi Connectivity.
@Poppadocrock thank you, think will give it a go.
What’s the best way to setup Piano Motifs in AUM? If I set it up as I normally would, routing Piano Motifs’ midi to Animoog Z and hit generate, it will play once and stop. If I generate another motif and hit play, it doesn't play any midi. I want it to play and keep looping for the duration I’ve set. Any tips appreciated.
Hi @gkillmaster, Piano Motifs (PM) defaults to Sync mode. In Sync mode, PM is completely synchronized to the Host, including the Host beat count. You can either set PM in infinite loop mode or rewind the Host to beat 1. You could also set PM to non-sync mode, but then it will be out of sync with the Host. Hope this helps.
Yay! Thanks so much @azul3D_Apps ! That works! Appreciate the immediate response.
