A14 chip on your TV - What are your thoughts?

Bit of speculation here, but there’s the possibility that Apple might move the A14 chip into an Apple TV. Mainly for gaming, but do you see yourself using an Apple TV for music production?

  • I’m all for embracing constraints, but this would seem like a stretch for me: none of the mobile advantages of iOS/iPadOS, with all of the walled garden downsides.

  • You won’t be able to use it for music production, there aren’t any music production apps for AppleTV and I don’t see developers making music apps for it anytime soon🤷🏽‍♂️

  • That’s pretty much what I’m using Apple TV for as well. It is so nice at public speaking sound gigs to no longer have to worry about which video adapter each presenter needs. I have a chromecast for the same reason but haven’t had to use it yet.

I got a very inexpensive spdif DA converter as well so I can take audio from the Apple TV and connect it to a sound system easily.

I don’t really have much interest in Apple TV as a music production device though. But if someone is able to get something cool out of it that way, that’s awesome. Looks like that VR version of gadget really does exist, or is planned- that might be really interesting. Not that it has anything to do with Apple TV (or maybe it will, who knows).

  • I wonder how this will tie into the rumoured Apple VR.

Haven’t tried it but isn’t there a Wotja app for Apple TV?

  • Great responses. Thanks for the posts.

Actually didn't think of that use case @mrufino1 That’s a really great use of the Apple TV. And yeah, it’ll be interesting if Apple does put VR technology into the Apple TV and the Gadget VR magically appears on there.

I guess right now, the hardware I’m most interested in is the Mac Mini.
