Xequence 2: Additional grid view to mute/solo MIDI tracks and step sequencer?
Hi all,
In Xequence 2,
1) is there a way to go to a grid view that solely shows mute/solo of MIDI regions such as the instrument view in NanoStudio 2? Rather than scrolling up and down in the normal timeline view, the grid view is just a simplified grid that shows the MIDI track name and a mute/solo button. It’s essentially just like the drum pad view but instead of drum pads it’s MIDI regions that can be muted and soloed.
2) Are there any plans for a native step sequencer? The piano roll for drums is good as is and reminds me of the step sequencer in Logic Pro’s Ultrabeat, but a dedicated native step sequencer view would be awesome!
I’m loving Xequence 2 because I finally got to replace my point-and-click Logic Pro piano roll with a touch-based sequencer 😁

How would that dedicated step sequencer look like?
In the current timeline view there could be an option to choose between using the native piano keys or the step sequencer. The step sequencer would have notes that are more delineated/separated between each other such as in Rozeta Bassline and Zenbeats drum sequencer. Recording to the timeline would be the same as using the piano keys. Aesthetically, it’d just follow the cool blue/black theme of Xequence.
Not trying to start another thread about why some people use step sequencers and why others don’t, just wondering if there are plans for this on the horizon for the next version of Xequence since it seems like it’d be a simple addition for something that’s been the basis for electronic music since at least the 303 came out.
If you're using a drum map, it folds the notes to only those used. From your post I understand you still want something else?
Like... a 'piano roll' just for the Bass Drums
another for snares, etc?
Yea, basically a Rozeta Bassline using the Xequence aesthetic in addition to the options of the native piano keys and native drum maps. As of right now I have to route Xequence and Rozeta Bassline through Audiobus and record Rozeta into Xequence. Why not just include a native step sequencer in Xequence, especially since it’s a MIDI app. I love the app but I feel it’s just missing this one thing (though many may argue contrary).
The step sequencer is on hardware synths such as TB303 and SH101 so it’s not restricted only to drums.
Roland Zenbeats already has a native step sequencer but oddly, despite their own hardware synths having step sequencers, they do not have a step sequencer option for synths on the app. I made a thread about this a few months ago as well as put the idea in the main ZB chat but it just kinda faded and it hasn’t been incorporated into the app ☹️
