Devil Spring Reverb by Julien Faure

Description:
Boing Boing makes my old tube amp when I move it or when I wildly unplug my jack! Well now, you just have to move your favorite DAW to hear the evil melody of the wiggling spring. It's vintage and It's very warm. All the sounds come from impulse responses grappled on the web. They've been cleaned up and I've been working on a convolution reverb algorithm optimized with small onions (french expression to said fine tuning).
Can be used as standalone app too
- AUV3 support
- 38 spring reverbs impulse responses selected and cleaned
3 levels of complexity (low and mid limit the audio bandwidth)
An optimized convolution engine that can go up to 4 seconds
- A tone to adjust the brightness of the reverb
- A tunable impulse response size (which also plays on the complexity) and a dry / wet mix to be able to go to extreme settings
If you hear audio glitches, try to lower quality or decrease the reverb length or increase the buffer length in your daw parameter.

Looks interesting 🧐
Saw on a Facebook group. I’m really tempted but too many apps were released today😂
There's a video here:
I bought it because someone has to.
Off-topic, but kinda sorta on-topic:
Bassplayer Dave Alexander of The Stooges first job in The Psychedelic Stooges was to drop and kick the spring reverb unit for the PA as needed.
Good work. That sounds quite convincing.
To quote the above I'd say 'quite convincing' and also will do the trick when the trick is what's needed...
Is it very sproingy? Dub style?
When a trick
is what's needed
but the money
is short
revolve her
best wishes
with scarcely
a thought
and reach out
for the sound
that will fill
these fine halls
for life
can be measured
by grabbing
both the balls
of your hope
and your wishes
and then making
them flow
until the sound
of your self
is perfectly
so
With the release of the GSI spring unit, this came onto my radar. Currently I use the iVCS3 spring or Altispace2 for all my spring needs, but I'm open it the possibility that others might be of interest. Anyon£ gone full Tubby with this one?
I think the upcoming Hornet will be an interesting spring reverb https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/51981/hornet-springverb-announced-for-ios#latest
Good shout - I missed the mention of that. I have a couple of desktop Hornet plugins and the quality is excellent
Do you have the Eventide Spring? Sounds ok to me but might not be as good as ones you mention? Also seems to use loads more cpu than their other apps for some reason..
I've got a lot of the Eventide apps and aside from QVox, which I really like a lot, I've never been too happy with them for some reason. There's a certain quality about the audio that doesn't really appeal to me. It's funny that their Spring plugin is one of the very few I don't own considering that spring is my favourite type of reverb
Others have said that the Eventide spring reverb sounds bad compared to TimeVerb-X by GSi. I haven't got round to doing a direct comparison yet
The Eventide Spring app is not good. Do yourself a favor and continue to stay away.
I'm telling you, it's really obvious when you do a direct comparison. Might be a good video for you to compare the lot of them, eh? But if you do, use an effects-free guitar sample to really hear the difference between them.
Doing that kind of video is a nightmare. Too many variables. And to be fair, you need to know each effect on a deep level. I can't speak for other youtubers, but most of the apps I review very quickly pass into the 'never use them category'. It's not that they're not good, but some click and others don't. And when you're maybe getting added to a beta, or given a free copy of an app once or twice a week, you can't go deep with all of them. Sometimes something jumps out as extra special - the upcoming AUv3 Riffler for example - but in many cases they just fade into the background. The main problem is that mostly people are most interested in the newest apps. That means a YouTuber race to be the first - depressing but it's the reality of the algorithm. I literally sacrificed my health and sanity in the early days of the channel to be the first to review an app. It paid off, but at considerable cost to my stress levels and general wellbeing. Unfortunately, as a small YouTuber, this is the only way to get 'eyes' on your vids. The algo always favours the bigger channels.
There are exceptions. My vid on Polyphase for example did really well, despite it having been released a long time before my vid. But only because no-one had taken the time to make a proper video on it over all those years. I still think my Stria video is one of my best. That app had been out for years. The lack of a decent video on that was actually one of the main things that made me start my channel. I genuinely felt angry that an app that had had so much love put into it, and which sounded so great, had not a single decent tutorial video on it. That was where I started from. But because I made it back in the early days, it has very few views. Again.... The algorithm. This was an app based on the work of a serious composer and innovator in the electronic music space. In my dialogue with Alessandro from apesoft I found out he had just died of covid a few weeks before I made the vid.
I've gone off on a tangent a bit here. Anyway.... Was all worth saying and I hope it will be interesting to some of you.
Tldr: there are a lot of decisions that go into the hows / whys / whats when it comes to making a youtube vid. I also don't follow these rules myself. My GSi vids have few views, but I love what they're doing and want to support them. Compare with an Eventide release. People are rushing to be the first to do a review. Doesn't matter if its good or bad. They know it's going to get views 🤷♂️
You're right. It's very competitive trying to gain eyeballs and attention these days.
