Storage space
Is there anything other than icloud where you can store your projects or finished songs?

Any app that supports the Files interface can store files in any cloud service (DropBox, Box, Google Drive, etc.).
Which DAW are you using?
With the right adapter you can store files on just about any USB storage device (thumb drive, SSD Hard Drive, etc). What is your device model? The adaptor you need depends on that.
However, it's important to note that apps generally can't directly access files on external drives or any other cloud services. This would be only for a place to import files into each app and for archival storage, with very few exceptions.
External hard drive or SSD
"Just works." Connect to iPad/iPhone via Lightning. Has a free app for backing up photos, contacts, calendar, and you can copy files. Also appears as a storage provider in the Files app. Connected by USB to PC and it's just a normal flash drive. I've used one for years, since long before iOS allowed drives.
Correction: It has been pointed out that the iXpand app treats the drive (connected via Lightning) as read-only for files (though not for photos, etc.). Since the Files sidebar relies on the apps for access, this means that you cannot save files to it using the Files interface. However, if you connect it via USB, you have full access, like any other memory stick. I was fooled because I use FE File Explorer Pro, which can write to the Lightning-connected drive.
Yep only issue I've found is you can't move any files from iPhone/iPad to the iXpand Drive. Unless you can tell me otherwise.
You're right! The Files app seems to treat it as read-only, and the iXpand app also only allows copying from the drive. I didn't realize this because I use FE File Explorer Pro, which does allow writing to the drive. So you'd need to copy files to File Explorer, then to the drive; not so convenient.
Edit: But if you connect it in the "new normal" way, using the USB connector, iOS treats it like any other memory stick. Files can then read and write to it. Not sure why the Lightning connection has this apparent read-only restriction, which File Explorer simply ignores.
Anyone have any feedback on using Documents by Readdle for transferring files from Files into a flash drive or solid state hard drive? I’ve been considering that app......
You can just do that directly with the Files app now, no need for a separate app. And if you want an app that can manage local storage, and access clouds/drives/servers, you should also look at FE File Explorer Pro. I rely on it to manage soundfonts, mp3s, etc.
Just reviving this thread to ask if anyone can tell me where audio files are stored when I use Spacecraft in AUM? To clarify ; I am using Spacecraft as an FX in AUM, feeding audio in from various synths, and then playing with that audio file (usually around 30 secs worth), adding additional FX apps after Spacecraft in the chain. But then, I am playing the result into Ableton because that's where I prefer to finish stuff off. So, in order to free up that space on my ipad, would deleting the AUM project achieve this? Or is the file somewhere else?
