Expressive E Touché?

Anyone using this? I saw Doug with it on the SWAM video.

  • I think I’m in the same boat as you. Expressive E? Sensel morph? It appears ROLI is out of stock nearly everywhere and in between a new product run. What’s a good MPE controller to cover all of the SWAM bases, including what’s currently released and the future?

  • Sensel is great stuff. People are complaining about them but they re great value for melodic playing. Forget about finger drumming. Bought 3 of them, I can have 6 octaves in a compact setup and the possibility to have a shitload of faders with the thunder layout. Heck I even made a layout as a foot controller for turnado

  • And you can have an xyz pad on the the thunder + 9 presets, that s a lot of possibilities, sure this is less classy as touché stuff or the upcoming osmose, It s very very expressive with the swam or geoshred stuff.

  • A midi headband could work.

The Touche is a brilliant bit of gear ... extreme expression and sensitivity.
I've had mine about a year and am only now getting the hang of it to be honest... prior to that it had been frustrating, an unnecessary intrusion ... something interesting to play with on its own but not part of any "workflow".
The trick turned with changing hands a couple of months back. I'd been trying to control it with my left hand... to "Play it" like a keyboard. As a recovering violinist my right hand fingers have as much muscle memory as my little toe -my clumsy melody lines on a keyboard are a tell-tale sign ... but my right hand does bowing pressure just fine ... all wrist and shoulder really - and that makes much more sense - at least to me... much more like bowing than pressing keys. Feels a natural way to do what it does.
It's particularly handy with controlling FX - filters, reverbs, delays and the like... very nice on strings and brass. Gives you a ridiculous amount of control.
BTW if you're after a seriously good MPE controller you can't go past the Roli Rise 25 ... nothing else they make though - but the Rise is a wonder - a truly classic instrument, defined the standard.

  • Sensel Morph is fine apart from the problem with lack of sensitivity on attack on the small pads at the top of the thunder layout. Some people have less of an issue than others. On my morph the top layer of the thunder overlay is pretty much unusable for any kind of soft playing due to lack of correct sensitivity. Sensel have acknowledged that there is a problem. If you are using piano layout this won't be an issue as you will be playing lower down the morph, not at the very top.

  • I’ve been looking at the Touché for a while at this point. The price always deterred me, and I was glad when they released the light version as I have no need for CV for the most part and the price was more reasonable.

Still, I have not purchased one yet, though I think I would really like one. Occasionally I can get pretty focused on some excessive pitch bending and this seems like it would be good for that as well as other modulation controls.

  • @Soundscaper, a brief tutorial on how it is hooked up with the iPad, please?

  • The indefatigable Doug does it better than I could:

He's using the "wrong hand" though ... taps at it like keys.
