Audiobus for room correction?

Hi all,

This is my first post here, and I apologise in advance if I’ve completely misunderstood what Audiobus does.

I am a music lover, rather than maker.

I am looking for a way to perform system-wide DSP on an iPad to correct for speaker/room frequency/timing issues - ideally by implementing FIR filters on all audio before it’s sent to an external DAC.

I do this using SoundSource on macOS, and I wondered if Audiobus could do the same on iOS.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

James

Unlike on MacOS or Windows, system wide audio processing in the background is unavailable on iOS from what I know. (Except Settings > Music > EQ that is).
I know exactly what you mean, I'm using Audiofile Engineering Audio Hijack and it's fantastic.

You could theoretically run Audiobus and load an "audio file player" plugin plus loads of DSP plugins including convolutors that could load inverse impulse responses but the "players" I know are too limited as to be called user friendly music players.

There's one music player that allows for pro-level parametric EQ control plus a few more DSP functions, supports lots of audio formats and even live radio streaming: Neutron Music Player.

  • Hi - thanks so much for your answer.

Neutron sounds really good for local files and internet radio, though I’d love to be able to convolve FIR filters to fix timing/phase issues as well - and EQ everything from Tidal, to podcasts to YouTube.

Maybe trying to do this using iOS software is too ambitious and I should just go for an external box e.g. something from miniDSP

    Thanks,

    James
