I have an XR32R on order. The R is to denote that it's rack mountable. Looks so good for a networked mixer. All the personal reviews I've read are super positive about it.
I'm giving up on the X18. Just doesn't work for my workflow. Fiddly, and I want a mixer with tactile interface. For sale if anyone wants it, in U.S.
It’s a great mixer. The x-touch works great with it, and if you’re going to use a tablet to control it, get mixing station pro.
I’m thinking that when work and income allows I’m going to sell mine though and get an Allen and Heath sq5, but my x32 rack has been excellent for me and will continue to be. If the sq5 is never a possibility then that’s ok.
If you ever need to expand, get one of the Midas stage boxes, the preamps definitely sound better. Not that the behringer preamps are bad, they are absolutely fine. The Midas are definitely better though.
This doesn’t sound like a glowing review perhaps, but I’ve been very happy with it.
That’s too bad, I’m sorry it didn’t work well for you. What are you thinking as a replacement?
No worries, got it in trade so not a huge deal.
At the moment I'm not. I'm working on what I hope is a more direct approach, dumping tracks into AUM. Export stems somehow (i have no idea what I'm doing). Also, thinking about recording direct to old Roland VS880ex.
Would love one of the new Tascams but no more money outlay for me at this time. NO!!
Interesting, thanks. What made you want to change to the sq5?
eta: just had a quick look. I can see why you are interested. A lot more money though.
Have you had a look at the Mackie VLZ4 series? Really nice spec. Onyx preamps.
Was the mackie question for me? If so, I haven’t looked at those, but I have an Allen and Heath mix wizard that someone gave me recently that will fill the need for that size analog mixer. I mostly use digital now on live shows.
And yeah, the sq5 looks really great, a lot of the features it has are not usually found in that price level. But, I have no complaints about the x32, it certainly fills all of my needs right now. In other words, work where I need to bring my own stuff will really need to pick up a lot for me to go to the sq5... but if I ever can I think it will be a good move up to the next step. I use a digico sd9 at my main sound gig, and we have an x32 rack there as well for events in other spaces around the building. My x32 goes with me to smaller sound gigs that I get on my own. I can definitely say it has paid for itself and then some.
I have the xlive card installed in it, that might be something you want to look at if you’re recording anything live- it lets you record up to 32 tracks to sd cards in addition to using the usb out, so is good to either track a live show without a computer or as a backup to using your laptop.
Hi, you have reliable results with X32 and multitrack recording to iPad? I use the x32 compact, but the one time I tried multi track to iPad I had bad glitches. I was using the FireWire+USB card, and always use the FireWire with recording to the computer. Do you use the USB only card with iPad? I had read reports the usb didn’t work right on the FireWire card.
Side note for project studio people, it’s been an awesome audio interface to record full bands, you can get everyone’s headphone mixes sounding like a record, being able to compress things, get reverb/delay on vocals, limiter on the aux sends so surprises don’t deafen people. I think it would be a similar experience with the rack 32, or the X18, if you go the distance learning the routing and nuances of the processors.
