Use omnisphere , kontakt or vst computer with iPad
Hey guys hope everybody is fine !
I m wondering if some people uses bm3 as main DAW, using together with computer to have the hability to use omnisphere , arcade Kontakt or other computer vst / fx for example and record everything on Bm3 .
I see a lot of post to configure iPad as sound module for Mac or mpc but not the other way. If someone can explain it to me it would be amazing (for now have a dedicated system with bm3 and another one on my Mac with ableton but i d love to just use bm3 with all computer vst fx possibilities 🙂
Maybe an app or midi through usb exist to do it ?
thanks 🙏 to you 🙂

If your arrangement is strictly pattern based (in the sense all audio snippets are aligned to a beat boundary), there‘s no trouble to do that in whatever favorite IOS app.
You may miss one or the other reverb/dynamic/eq plugin that only exists on desktop to finalize your mix. You may not know them, but they exist
Editing arrangements with non grid based audio is a pain in the back in IOS.
That’s why desktop still is the preferred mixing environment.
you would probably need a DAW on the MAC you wanted to use with BM3 then look for any midi out options in BM3, its possible but i think it would be better to just export your midi data (from bm3) then edit it on a computer. or use the iPad as a midi input. it is possible though, and all you would need is a DAW
he uses hardware synths here, but you use a computer with VSTs instead
I’m still using a desktop with plugin to mix and finalize thanks for your feedback @Telefunky
Yes i work with pattern in bm3 ! But my question is not concerning mixing and finalize but use omnisphere or kontakt during creation process.
I know I can’t sync with Ableton Link mode but I try to see if it’s a way to control desktop vst I from my iPad. It would be dope if I can do it !
I know you can use iPad as sound module for desktop but I want to do the opposite. Is that more clear? Thanks so much
@RubenDari thanks have to check the video
@CapnWillie thanks too ! I already use kitmaker and convert all my maschine kits and some drum kits. But I don’t I ow how to do it with kontakt instrument or arcade or omnisphere .
You’re right though. I totally can use link mode in bm3 and my Ableton on desktop and export audio from desktop or record with an audio interface to bm3, it works for sure.
But I’m wondering if a :
Thanks guys for all your feedback
@Lawkyz I did understand your question, but just wanted the background to be clear.
As in @CapnWillie ‘s bottomline: it‘s actually quite smooth... with an audio/midi interface.
I prefer to record on iPad and frequently track sources from PC/Mac - either synths triggered by midi from iPad or sounds sent from iPad to desktop and back for fx processing.
Desktop sounds are received on analog inputs of the interface, in my case an iCA4+ configured like a typical send/return unit (outputs 3+4, input 3+4).
Inputs 1 serves mic, Input 2 guitar/bass.
@Telefunky ok
I can do it the same because have 2 audio interface through an audio patchbay so I can send audio from iPad , processed with fx desktop and go back to iPad with my audio interface
Thanks for your detailed configuration ! Though what are your midi config ? Do you play directly with midi keyboard on your desktop daw then send audio to your iPad ? Or you send midi from iPad to control desktop vsti with your iPad ?
It’s the question in my search
But thanks to share it s useful to increase my setup
Sequenced midi comes from Oscilab or Aphelian - live notes by the midi out of an MPC Studio.
I should do more TC Data, though...
Ok thanks 🙏
On discord discussion some people tell me IDAM protocole Will be the one
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/audiotoolbox/enabling_usb_audio_and_midi_for_ios
Audio out only but midi works in and out and with only one usb cable
Have to try tomorrow but if it’s works I just have to record the audio through my Audio interface
Hope all works fine and yes I’ll let you know in detail
i use an iconnect midi+ and send audio and video back and for between desktop and ipad. works perfectly
thanks @eross
I tried IDAM today, and it works perfectly !

I use Beatmaker 3 and Ableton to test
So I can control Omnisphere, Kontakt or any other Desktop VSTi with my iPad (or a usb controller too) and I can record midi either to Ableton OR BM3 !
The only thing not possible is to get the Audio from Ableton to iPad. SO you can record midi but not Audio in Beatmaker. But it's always possible to record in Audio track in Ableton and Export it .
I know I can export my midi from iPad to Ableton and export it with the sound I want with Omnisphere, but I want to have iPad a main device and work directly with the sound I want. So guys, you totally can add iPad full to your studio only with a lightning or USB C cable (depends which iPad or iPhone you have)
Thanks to all for your feedback / ideas, videos...
And If you need more explanation with IDAM, please feel free to ask:)
