Stuck On Repeat - new single by Daveypoo!
Here's something I've been working on for the last month or so. I hope you like it.
Play it LOUD!
Comments
Yeah! Rock!
Good groove and sounds great. Some nice bass licks in there!
Thanks, Oscar - play it LOUD!
@McD @flo26 I'd love your thoughts on the guitars here.
Meticulous playing Dr. Dave.
Really nice mix and guitar accompaniment.
Well done dave!
To my ears,it sounds like supertramp on steroids.
Maybe the guitar is a little too loud in the mix🤭😉.
Good track!
Flo
The guitar is deliberately VERY loud in the mix. It was the most important thing to me, so I decided to be "artistic" and make it the focus. I don't mind that it steps on the vocals as the vox are much less important to me than the guitars. So it was a deliberate, purposeful, artistic decision.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
And hey - I LIKE Supertramp!
@McD you didn't need to edit your prior comments - all feedback is welcome here! I sincerely appreciate the comments - please don't feel like the commentary wasn't wanted.
I re-listened to the track and decided my first take was off base. Checking for variables I did change the
physical settings on my headphones and probably had the volume a little hot on the first listen.
You shouldn't mix for your own preferences but it's understandable since getting an audience is
not trivial... so in the words of Billy Joel "if you can't please everyone... you might as well please yourself."
But you know we're going to try and change you for our own desires because it shows we actually listened.
Keep at it, kid.
Good stuff!
Thanks @Pxlhg
@McD I spent years trying to make sure that everyone was happy with my mixes, and in the end I always felt like I had to explain myself regarding the choices I'd made. It took a VERY long time, but I've since become OK with simply making artistic choices and sticking with them. Most of the music I listed to is far from "perfect" and some of the best songs are great in spite of their production. That doesn't mean that I strive for mediocrity or being deliberately "bad", it simply means that art can be imperfect.
So I get the tune to the point where it makes me happy and I'm ok with the choices, and then I let it go. This allows me to finish one project and move on to the next - otherwise I just keep circling the bowl endlessly.
So yeah - loud guitars on this one.
That's a great title for my autobiography... we all know how it ends.
"Finding Nemo".
Great playing and sound Dave!
Thanks, @Intrepolicious - so glad you dug it!
OopyevaD...do it for u and don’t worry about the restuvus...some will love it, some will hate it...if u listen to it and are satisfied then it’s platinum...I make music for me and if nobody else cares, at least I have my own soundtrack to navigate this oxygen infested warble we call life as we spin around that fireball and try not to die too soon...maybe we can even take the stems with us when we leave and work on them in another dimension...Jimi did, does, will...
OneManBandism at its best. I like when the members egos clash!
Great one! Like your other work.
This song sounds like it was made in the 70s and recorded again in 2021 😄
It actually reminds me more of Boston than of Supertramp.
@LinearLineman There was a dust up just after the feedback ended on the last take. F-ing bass player had it coming.
@rs2000 Boston... Hadn't thought of that, but an apt comparison on many ways. I'm flattered - I need to work on my high notes and my mustache!
Yeah! 😄
Add some vocal harmony and the Boston typical 420Hz EQ peak on the distorted solo guitar, don't look back and get ready for a flood of bookings.
I'm going to throw "Foreigner" into the ring for my musical influence here. Kick ass rock with great Hooks and crisp guitar syncopations: Always great band arrangements.
Hey, well done, I particularly liked the fx on the voice !
@Daveypoo this is so good. The guitars sound so good. Great groove with the bass. Care to share details? How did you record? All iOS? Some iOS?
@mjcouche This was 90% iOS, but recorded entirely on the iPad using Cubasis 3.
I started with the drums: programmed the song out in Lumbeat's Rock Drum Machine, then exported the individual audio tracks TWICE (so I'd have 2 separate takes/performances by RDM). Once these were imported into Cubasis, I heavily edited them to craft the drum performance more to my liking (I continually tweaked this during production). Once the drums sounded good, I performed the basic guitar tracks to the drums.
The main guitar riff was my Gibson SG into a JHS Cheese Ball pedal, into my Joyo American Sound, then into Cubasis running Thafknar for the speaker cab emulation. The support guitars were again the JHS Cheese Ball into the Joyo British Sound and into Thafknar inside Cubasis.
Once the guitars were cut I played the bass part, using my Fender Precision Bass into Nembrini's Blackice Beta Gamma inside Cubasis.
At this point I had most of the rhythm track, so I laid down the vocals. The vocals in the middle bit were run through FAC Chorus for the watery effect. Lots of Pro-Q 3 and Toneboosters Compressor for mixing. For the outro I used Toneboosters Reelbus for the tape flanging effect on the guitars.
Mastered in Final Touch.... not really sure if there's much more in there. Hope that gives some insight!
@McD I thought of Foreigner as well - I really love their tune Long Long Way From Home
@rs2000 For the next track, I'm going for full-on Queen harmonies. Then I can dial in the out-of-phase thing and get my Brian May on
Thanks so much! Really well done and cool to see what gear/ apps you have used.
