Record LK midi in BeatMaker 3
I am trying to record midi from LK (as a AU plug in on a pad) onto a track in BM3.
Can someone please give me a link to a step-by-step on how to do this? Or post the step-by-step instructions for this?
I checked out and tried using MIDI BUS like this:
It's just not coming together for me! LOL. Is this possible?
Many thanks!!

I believe this is a bug in Beatmaker, specifically with auv3 effects that send midi. As you probably already know this is not an issue in AUM. Hopefully BM3 gets updated soon. Same bug in NanoStudio, although the midi route plugin works in there.
Thank you@Stuntman! I wish I'd asked sooner... A few hours gone trying to figure that one out...
It will be great if BM3 updates this soon. I haven't gotten NanoStudio 2 yet. Will stick with AUM for this.
You’re welcome! Audiobus works well with midi auv3 effects that send midi. If you have Audiobus, try routing the midi out to BM3!
Edit: thought you only tried Bus and not Route. Midi Route has worked for me with other AU FX, is this just an issue with LK?
I couldn’t get Tonality to work with Route in BM3 either. Tonality works perfectly in AUM and Audiobus. I haven’t tried it in apeMatrix yet.
@wim posted an alternate way to route AU midi/fx into BM3 using Audiobus but I can’t find it.
Maybe this way help. 😉

I haven't been able to get Midi Route to work specifically with BM3 and LK.
I'd like to try this if anyone finds it.
I'm pretty sure this is the same as the YT video I posted above. This doesn't seem to work specific to LK with BM3.
ChordPolyPad works great with BM3! I purchased it yesterday and I love the strumming feature! I finally found an app that allows me to strum like Keystep 37... I was one of the people that bought a Keystep just before the Keystep 37 was released 😢 Now I don’t feel so dumb 😂
@dj8 I forgot to ask, what are trying to do? Are you trying to use one of the controllers in LK in BM3? I ask because BM3 has the same controllers built-in: Pads, Chords, Keys. BM3 also has clips.
The issue isn’t particular to LK. After experimenting and Inserting a MIDI monitor, it looks like a pad instrument‘s MIDI is not sent to the MIDI FX. So, MIDI Route never sees the MIDI. If LK could load as a MIDI Fx then you could load it as an FX and route it’s output with MIDI Route. I was able to do that with ATOM.
I tried this also with BeatHawk and GR-16 with the same result.
How about routing midi from LK into BM3 inside Audiobus?
Chordpolypad works without Route in BM3. Chordpolypad pads are automatically assigned to notes so the pads can be triggered by BM3 keys. Perhaps a workaround can be discovered looking at the challenge this way? Maybe if there is way to midi learn BM3 keys to LK controls?
The question is whether any plugin loaded at pad level is able to send MIDI output anywhere. It looks like even a pad’s MIDI Fx don’t receive MIDI from the plugin loaded into the pad. The FX precede the instrument.
But can chordpolypad loaded as an instrument send MIDI out by pressing its pads directly?
I made a video. I hope this makes sense ☺️
I can’t tell from the video, if you tap on the chordpolypad (not the BM3) keys, does it send MIDI out of the track?
@espiegel123 I updated the video above
I made a new video, sorry about that. The first pass is ChordPolyPad pads triggering and the second pass is the BM3 keys triggering.
You are demonstrating what I said above. A MIDI effect can send MIDI out but not the top-level instrument. LK can’t load as a MIDI effect. If it did, it would work.
Gotcha! I’m glad ChordPolyPad works without Route. I did get LK to record notes in BM3 with the BM3 keyboard with notes recorded in LK without Route. @dj8 is that what you were trying to do?
I was hoping someone's post above had the answer...
Yes, in BM3 I want to use LK at pad level to send MIDI output and record this. I'm pretty sure I sent a request to LK to consider adding it midi FX function for it.
@Stuntman_mike I'm trying to record the midi from the Matrix Module in LK. Also, it would be great to be able to record midi and audio live simultaneously and monitor this while recording.
I think this would all work if there was a fix for using midi processors at pad level and/or if LK is updated with Midi FX option.
Somehow I was able to record midi into LK from BM3 keys earlier, but now it just freezes up when I try. Maybe if reset my iPad it will work again. BM3 keys definitely send MIDI because I can assign the keys to control LK in LK midi learn.
LK can now load as a MIDI effect. So, it should work but I haven’t tested it.
I was thinking about this the other day... aren’t both apps capable of the same thing?
You can create and launch midi clips with both.
Both have chords, keys, and drum pads.
Both can trigger AUV3s.
BM3 gets the edge for being able to do audio as well.
Seems like if you use BM3 there is no need for LK or vice versa.
What does LK do that BM3 can’t?
