  • Muuuuust resist...but distortion...arrrgggg

  • Bought. Supporting Paul transition to auv3😂

  • Great looking interface, I have to say.

  • Expect a lot more from the dev.

  • Paul releasing an auv3 that’s great news :)

  • I like the interface so much too.

Right? Talk about a good looking app.

  • Is this a ProCo Rat? I am curious, because I am just trying to get the tone of Kurt Rosenwinkel on East Coast Love Affair.

According to Wikipedia the difference of the Rat and the BOSS DS-1 is the use of the LM308 op amp.

  • I didn’t need another distorsion, but it says “fuzz” and its orange... bought

  • Bought and testing it out!

    First impressions:

The app store description says this type of distortion is “pleasant to the ear”, and I would say this is not the case, but I mean it as a compliment. With the knobs kind of cranked it sounds like a ripped speaker cone kind of distortion, plenty of harsh particles warbling around the core tone. There are some sweet spot settings for a really convincing raunchy kind of fuzz distortion, unruly, and on the harsh side, but also just enough low end from the fuzz. My only real criticism is that the Mix knob is not fine tuned at all. It goes from nothing to almost wet, with not much in between. Fine tuning this knob would lead to many more tonal possibilities here. I tried this on guitar, definitely see it working on synths and other instruments.

There are five presets in the menu that are decent, but clicking on them exposes a green code on the right side that says “beta”. I wonder if it’s meant to be there or if perhaps it is a beta.

A lot of potential for that price point! When it comes to Fuzz it’s hard to beat the Nembrini, which is just perfect because it’s the wooly sweet saturated and bassy kind of fuzz. But this DD-21 Fuzz is better than most. Looks good too!

The Nembrini is really good, I use it all the time. But we don’t want just one kind of fuzz. Do we?. 🤟

@tahiche Of course not! And besides it’s a diode distortion emulation not just a fuzz.

@Poppadocrock another thing I really like about it is it doesn’t require pushing your signal and levels to get that raunchy ripped sound, you can get it with a relatively low in/out on your interface or daw.

To me this sounds like an asymmetrical diode clipping kind of sound, and it seems that the algorithm is incorporating several different modes of diode clipping, and that’s great. This emulation is kind of unruly and spasmy, and I mean it as a compliment. I hope it goes universal too.
