Sequencer - Can we playback a sequence by pressing a note?

I used to have a Roland Fantom X keyboard which has RPS (Realtime Phrase Sequencing ) functionality. This allowed me to assign midi patterns to a key which could be triggered while playing a song. You could also run more than one pattern at a time. Is there any iOS sequencer that works like that which would let us assign patterns to a notes in that way? I know some sequencers allows pattern changes by hitting a note but I am wondering if there is anything which would work more like Roland's RPS function.

    Genome MIDI and Imaginando LK.

  • Thanks, @rs2000! Genome MIDI looks interesting though I should have added that I am hoping it will also be AUv3 so that it can be loaded into Keystage.

    Yes, mididreams can do that

It's called gate mode, and it can be set up that either any key can trigger the sequencer to advance, or one specific key can be assigned to do that. For multiple patterns, you would just need to set up multiple instances. It is AUv3.

  • I have accomplished this task with @cem_olcay LoopBud!

  • LoopBud looks interesting, @Stuntman_mike though I don't think there is a step editor in it. What do you use to edit your patterns?

  • No editor in it and no file import or export either, so loopbud can only work as a looper

Right, no editor. You can overdub or record new patterns. I realize not everyone works this way, but I love it! I have come to realize I work best looping until I get my parts the way I want them instead of editing notes. From there I have assigned CC to all the pads on my Launchpad Mini to trigger patterns.

  • @Howard What's wrong with LK?

  • Another suggestion for LK. I needed this exact functionality and bought LK yesterday. It works perfectly and meets all your needs.

  • Hey there @rs2000. I did not take a close look at Imaginando LK and it does look to do exactly what I am asking for and is AUv3. If I just want to create loops and launch them with a keyboard would I just need the Matrix in-app?

Also, thanks for responding, @lukesleepwalker. Which modules did you get with it?

  • @Howard Yes, you need the Matrix 😊

  • Atom 2 will support this as well. The update is more or less imminent (next week).

    It does export MIDI though.

Don't need editing on loopbud, it's great for what it does, but would love if it could save files locally.

Yep, this is what i found. Looking forward to trying Atom2, as well.

You can save them as user presets in AUM (or host apps).

Anyone know if Rozeta Cells patterns/scenes can be triggered by cc?

And while I’m at it, same question for Aphelian

Weird I find I can asign a button to make LoopBud play but I cannot asign one for pattern change. I am using the SL Mixface from Studiologic. It is in bluetooth mode, I can asign play under midi learn but using the same setup can not asign pattern change, nor can I assign pattern change just using internal keyboard. I take it that it will respond to note value? Any help would be great since this is probably my most used app recently. Cheers

Neither appear to have their midi parametres exposed so I doubt this is possible. Though someone may know otherwise.
