Not sure what instruments/voice you’re using them on, but one super nice Developer you’re missing is ToneBoosters. Start with their Reverb, but their Eq, Compressor, Dual VCF, etc are all incredible. Proper effects have to fit the kind of sounds you’re wanting and what you’re using them on. The more details the better..
I love analog warmth. Here are my five go to’s:
Reelbus is a great effect for adding character and “age” to sounds.
Mammoth is a great bass enhancing app that helps bass lines cut through and be warm.
Lo-Fly Dirt is great for adding some “umpff” to drums and “herbs and spices” to any sound.
MagicDeathEyeStereo is great for compressing mixes while letting the harmonics breathe with a little extra magic!
Pro-L 2 is a great a maximizer for keeping analog-seasoned mixes at bay.
Saturn 2 is such an excellent versatile warming/distortion fx. That and using Drambo as an fx unit can get you so many places.
IK MixBox

Yes it's 'expensive' by iOS standards but I have no regrets getting it!
Bleass Saturator is another one I really like.

Are there any specific effects you're looking for?
I second mixbox!
Mixbox does seem good. If you can launch via midi and have all the effects on screen. Might have to consider and use effects already bought, now and again.
I’m mainly using synths with the goal of making ambient music, soundtracks, some 80s, synth wave and synthy modular sounding bloopy kind of stuff.
@Stuntman_mike Nice selection, I’ll check em out!
@quartzite Cool I have Drambo!
@Samu I’ll be honest I’m not exactly sure, I don’t really even know what a saturator is for haha. I do like the look of the Bleass apps though.
Aside from your lack of granular, you have enough fx apps already. Save up for the really good ones (Fabfilter apps). For granular, Bleass or Spectrum as an effect, Borderlands and Spacecraft as instruments.
Nice! I have Spacecraft and Borderlands, just bought Tardigrain yesterday.
You have a lot of great effects already. So, I’ll just say the effects I use way more than I ever thought I would are ADverb2 (Audio Damage) and MicroPitch (Eventide).
Spectrum Granular is a free port of MI Clouds to ios.
That’s great to know, I see so many new effects that come out and wonder if I’m missing out on something good.
Woah that looks almost too good to be true! Thanks!
Based on what you have, I'd suggest adding these two effects to round out your collection.
• RE-1 Tape Machine by Kai Aras - currently $9.99 (He usually puts in on sale around Easter for half price)
• FAC Chorus by Fred Anton Corvest - currently $3.99
Because you said you make ambient music, Then I can’t recommend Velvet Machine by Yuri Turov enough. Such a beautiful space designer.
Objeq by AAS is also a hidden gem. It’s a physical modeling effect, which can heavily filter the input, as well as turn impulses into percussive tones. Super high quality!
CuSnP by Neon Silicon is a tuned resonator. It’s free, it can do subtle, but tasteful things to your audio.
And I noticed you got Spacecraft already. Tip! Place it in the fx slot, and turn in ‘infinite’ sampling mode. Place the crosshair center, furthest to the right - now it’s an effect! Always get inspiration using it in this mode.
There’s been some really great ones mentioned already. I’ll also add some personal favorites, that I don’t think were mentioned yet...
Paid Apps
Beatformer- great on drums, I put it on almost every drum track
TB EQ - great visual EQ, top quality.
Bleass Filter - great on anything
Replicant 2 - stutter, glitch, repeat audio by a circular sequencer, steps, randomly or by touch
Glitchcore - glitch, stutter, really cool glitch sequencer, several cool ways to chop or reverse audio
YaleD - reverse delay
Bark Filter - compressor, has a cool mastering trick
Free Apps
Wider Touch by Infected Mushroom
All the free ones by @NeonSilicon PhaseDelayArray, Gyrovibe, xTrem, CuSnP, etc...
All the free ones by @CaelumAudio Tape Cassette, TC 2, Flux Mini and the paid Tape Cassette Pro
I’ve heard good things about FAC Chorus, it seems to get a lot of praise.
I’ve got Gauss, is that the same thing as RE-1 Tape Machine?
If your after ambient- FAC Alteza, I think was mentioned, Velvet Machine is good too.
Thanks for all the suggestions!!! Yeah Spacecraft is great, I haven’t thought to use it as an effect.
Yeah I just got FAC Alteza, it’s amazing!
I should’ve grabbed Mix Box on that initial sale, I’ve easily spent a similar amount on other FX apps since then... I’ll wait for next sale on that one. IK Multimedia does usually has app sales multiple times a year, but not sure if the newer MixBox will follow that same path. SampleTank, for example, has been on sale as few as 3 times but as many as 7 times per year over the past 5 years, according to appsliced.com.
Spectrum is amazing and free! Ported from MI code.
Wow! Objeq is like updated version of Impaktor with AUV3 support! Thank you for sharing 👍
I prefer FAC phaser to chorus.
RE-1 is a tape echo emulator. It is more normal and controllable a delay than Gauss. It imposes its own tone on your source material, which you may or may not like. It pairs well with its dev’s own synths, especially Shockwave.
FAC Chorus is my personal favorite Chorus.
RE-1 Tape Machine, because the delay time goes down to 5ms, and I think that short delay effect is really cool sounding.
(Makes me think of the Blade Runner soundtrack, when paired with the right synth sound)
I don't have Gauss, is it capable of a 5ms delay time?
Maybe it can sound like the RE-1? I don't know.
+1 for YaleD! Not a lot of other reverse delays that I am aware of (which isn’t saying much as I know next to zip)
Few off the top of my head
FAC Chorus (best chorus)
FAC Transient shaper (great for drums)
DDMF 6144 eq (great for everything)
Nembrini delay
Eventide Blackhole reverb
If you’re interested in powerful tools for experimentation check these out
Turnado from Sugar Bytes
Discord4 from Audio Damage
Both AUv3 and capable of some serious sonic transformation. Discord4 can also be used to add sparkle of a more subtle nature if you want it to. Turnado does randomised layered FX and can be played live (has 4 XY pads) - great fun.
Just now I am spending a lot of time with an awesome AUv3 sampler app, Elsa by Humbletune (I see you have Frekvens, same dev). It’s bloody good.
Some other interesting recommendations on here, plenty to check out...
Have you tried GlitchCore?
It can reverse live audio.
You can use 2 instances of GlitchCore in reverse with a delay or reverb sandwiched between them, so you hear the tail in reverse building up before the actual sound.
Ah, sooo many, hard to know where to start. From your description of the style of music you want to do I think you would get a lot of use out of Reelbus, it has a great delay and flanger. I also love BitJuggler, have been using that a lot. YaleD, why not! Only 2 dollars. I love delays, so Modley and Nembrini Delay3000 are also powerful and do a lot. Slow Machine by Bleass might well be up your street.
