Is there such a thing as a MIDI looper?
I have audio loopers (both iOS and hardware pedals). I think a MIDI looper would be very cool. My Motif XF has a built in 16 track sequencer. It is very easy to record into these tracks, one at a time. Track patterns can be different lengths. During playback, you can mute or arm tracks on the fly. However, to record, you have to stop the sequence, then select another track to record on, then restart the sequence. I want to be able to select record tracks while the sequencer is running. This would be a live performance tool.
Extra points if it syncs to midi clock.
Do you know what I am talking about?
Does such a thing exist?

Before I get scolded..... I just searched "MIDI looper" on this forum and saw a few ideas. None of them really seemed to do it for me. Maybe I should try a template in Cubasis 3, assuming I can switch between tracks quickly.
There is a simply free MIDI looper included with the free Streambyter plugin. It is a simple looper that starts recording when you tell it and stop recording starts playing back when you tell it.
Isn’t that what LoopBud does?
Try Zenbeats
Atom 1, and hopefully soon to be released Atom 2
Now there is: LoopBud. Also, Atom 2 coming soon.
I'd give anything if MIDI Looper by HGSounds (Andy Medforth) was available for IOS!

Modstep and infinite looper basically do this don’t they? Pretty fancy feature sets on both sides
You can do this easily with Drambo’s sequencer. Just set the global length of your sequence first. Then go into each track, and use the step condition ‘jump’ to set the last step (ie length) of that sequence.
Put a ‘midi out’ module on each track, arm record, and you’re in business. You can switch tracks on the fly during recording.
Must admit to allowing Infinite Looper to get lost towards the back of the endless pack, but it's a lovely piece of work...
As mentioned, Infinite Looper is purpose designed to be a midi looper. It’s a stand alone app.
LoopBud does this very well once you map the patterns to CC values. I may need to make a video to demonstrate. I use my Launchpad Mini to trigger patterns to record in and to play in LoopBud! You could also assign a foot pedal to the play button in AUM.
Most iOS "midi loopers" have certain limitations. For instance, Atom only loops notes and velocity. This will be true for Atom 2 at first when it comes out too. Same for Loop Bud. LK records notes and CC's. None that I know of record MPE. Etc.
Photon is the closest to a comprehensive midi looper that just records and plays back all MIDI. But it can be a bit of a challenge to come to grips with the interface, and it has a few issues such as incorrect sustain pedal handling when looping.
Loopy Pro promises to be a great combined audio and Midi looping solution. It's not definite when it will come out, and it'll only include audio looping at initial release.
We're getting there, but are still some ways off to anything comprehensive on iOS.
You would think that GR-16 (with a little work) can make a great Midi Looper+...
Possibly not what is being asked for here but if it does not need to be an AU then GarageBand lets you record MIDI/audio in a loop (with optional overdub, I think) and will also automatically save your takes if you ask it to for rummaging through later. I believe it also records MPE but you will not be able to get the MPE data out of GB.
Also Xequence 2 has a MIDI multi-take mode.
As others have said, LoopBud and the upcoming atom 2 might be what you are looking for. Check out Gavinski’s video for more information on loop bud (btw, I think it is better for him in terms of monetisation if you go to the YouTube website/app and watch the ads rather than just watch the embedded video here)
