Bluetooth issues with Roli lumi keys —- anyone using them?
Hey guys
I’ve tried everything with my new roli lumi keys... and the Bluetooth just doesn’t work
It Goes into pairing mode with the blue wave and then when I try to connect in iPhone or iPad app or even the MacBook with the Bluetooth studio… It shows connecting then the keyboard turns into the rainbow pattern and goes back to blue and then the connection is never made
I can use the keyboard very well with the iPad iPhone and laptop using the USB -C cable… But Bluetooth doesn’t work with any of those three devices
I’ve tried resetting it to default and also updating the firmware but doesn’t make any changes
Can anybody help me try anything different or maybe I got it broken unit!
Thank you
Phillip

Are you trying to pair it using Settings > Bluetooth? That isn't the route that works with most Bluetooth MIDI controllers. BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) MIDI is different than regular Bluetooth.
Have you tried pairing it using the Bluetooth MIDI connection from within a host or other app that supports it? Just about any host like AUM, Audiobus, Cubasis, Ape Matrix, etc, has a Bluetooth connection dialog that is the right way to connect a BLE MIDI device.
If I'm right regarding your device, you might need to go into Settings > Bluetooth, and tell it to forget any "remembered" connections to that device before this will work. Those pairing associations can sometimes interfere with BLE MIDI pairing.
Ditto
Try download xkey plus (cme xkey air configuration app), is free and it will recognize and connect folk stuff also I believe or Bluetooth midi page in any host
Yes, you need a third-party app, but I can confirm that mine connects fine in BLE-MIDI, midimittr, and the LUMI app, as well as AUM, Audiobus, and ApeMatrix.
Sucks. I tried everything.
Reinstall everything and in every app and etc and setting ... and at last step of pairing ... keyboard turns rainbow colored then back to blue wave then turns off. Lot of problems already on day 1.
Where are you doing the pairing? In what app?
Are you doing the pairing in a host app’s Bluetooth connections panel (which is where you should be doing it) or in the System Bluetooth connections (which will not work because it isn’t for this type of Bluetooth connection).
I tried in the ble style connections inside roli’s app noise, rolis app Lumi Play, korgs ble app, and midimittr. All do the same thing
Tries to connect then fails
Did you check settings > Bluetooth and “forget” any pairing records for the device there? If there are any, they can interfere with BLE Midi.
Also, is there any chance this is paired with (or attempted to pair with) any other devices?
I tried deleting everything again and repairing and same endless loop on all 3 devices. Sucks. Looks like Bluetooth hardware issue with the controller.
Could you clarify, were you trying to connect from within the host or through the Bluetooth section in the Settings app?
From within the host.. since the Roli controller is BLE you can not connect through the traditional Bluetooth/Settings window. You must do it through the host app or 3rd party app
Confirmed that my brand new Lumi controller is dead D.O.A. for bluetooth. Another unit working perfectly.
Bad units being shipped by Roli and very very difficult almost impossible to reach the company for support, refunds, anything. Whats going on with them there?
The company finally acknowledged my unit having bluetooth issues with the onboard bluetooth chip/hardware. But the replacement will take weeks to arrive they said, bec so backed up with issues and customer requests and backlogged orders from Texas storm and everything.
The only reason they even wrote me back, was because I DM'd their social team for an entire week on Instagram. Otherwise, all my support emails went unanswered for 3 weeks. Crazy experience with this company, very difficult! Currently they got $1000 of orders for me and they either arrived broken or delayed. Dont let this happen to you too.
