Does the 2017 iPad Pro have any known/lingering issues with iOS Audio?
I remember hearing lots of noise in the past about stability issues with some iPad Pro models. I'm considering a refurb of this model as an alternative to iPad8 or Air3, if/when I manage to pull the funds together. Processor seems only slightly less powerful and it has more RAM, so seems like a viable candidate.
Anyone using one these days? Any specific issues?
Cheers,
Oscar

I used a 2017 pro for a couple of years without problem.
The main reason I upgraded to a move recent device (air 4) was needing more storage. I considered getting another 2nd hand 2017 with more storage but decided the Air 4 was better for my needs.
Cheers. Still need your old device? Want to sell it?
I have 2017 ipad pro 256gb;
Problems are LCD backlight bleed. (Google it) I got mine second hand so swapping it in store was never an option.
In practise, its only noticeable on black screens not in apps.
When using a CCK the touchID does not work, (but I use cheap cables and a 'not official' CCK.)
I've had my 2015 ipad's home button fail on me recently, so I am now worrying about my pro's. Tried recalibrating the 2015's which worked for a few days but it has totally given up now.
256gb has been more than enough, but i don't use huge amounts of samples.
12.9 120htz screen is gorgeous, speakers good for a portable device.
Love the 3.5mm jack! Its really useful for an extra audio input.
I worry the CPU is getting a bit weak/left behind esp. since the M1 stuff but then again people here at audiobus still hang on ipad air 2s, lusting after moogs for big bucks, with no consideration of getting a better ipad.
Also been using a 10.5 inch 2017 pro with no issues about about 1.5 years. A better deal than the air3 - CPU the same for music making purposes, more ram, better screen, and better speaker system; and you can get a good price. Strongly recommend the 256GB model though! You're pretty much stuck if you run out of space otherwise.
Thanks very much for the detailed info. I'll watch out for that and make sure if I get one I can either check it out well or has a refurb warranty.
I'm one of the ones who has been surviving with an Air2 (16 GB model
) -- been gigging with this device nonstop since 2015 (until you know what), so I'm pretty seasoned at making every metabyte and gigahertz count!
That's what I was thinking too -- seems like a logical decision. I'll probably end up going with a 64 GB version though just to keep costs down. It'll be a performance only device anyway and my sessions never really get to more than about 50MB (this is basically just samples in Koala and Samplr). I reckon I'll manage to squeeze another half decade of use out of that! Haha
I bought my 2nd Gen Ipad Pro 12.9 512GB 2 years ago and it's work flawlessly. Only issues I have encountered are the same issues everyone else that uses Cubasis 3, DSP overloads etc but that I believe is a thing of the past.
Already sold it on I'm afraid!
Worth a try!
Off the cuff, could you confirm that it's a lightning device?
That sounds like a nightmare. Can it be repaired for a reasonable cost?
I still use a 2017 iPad Pro 12.9 and yes it is a lightning device. I am always a few years behind with my tech and I have had no issues with it
