Description:
AmpStamp is a best-in-class audio processing tool for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS offering models of vintage effects, amplifiers, speaker cabinets, and reverbs. Our goal is to recreate guitar tones heard on classic records. Through extensive research we model select vintage gear, recording techniques, and provide additional options which allow further customization beyond what is capable from the hardware and/or what was available at the time of recording.
Create tones ranging from classic rock and blues all the way to alternative and heavy metal, with enough gain to spare. When you’ve dialed in the perfect sound, save it as a preset in the virtual Floor Controller for instant recall. And set up your favorite MIDI controller for hands-free operation whether live, in the studio, or just jamming with friends.
When you need more options or want to expand your creativity, head to the Gear Shop. You can buy amplifiers, cabinets, and pedals individually or subscribe for an inexpensive all-access pass that includes all future updates and products. Get fuzzed out and sound like a classic rock hero or an early punk rocker, use flange to unleash the eighties, and everything can always use more wah. Stay tuned for new products and updates.
VINTAGE GEAR DONE RIGHT
The mobile revolution for guitar is just beginning. We are in the process of building a definitive catalogue of the most desirable tones based on our accurate models of vintage amplifiers and effects, all at your finger tips. Not only can you play along with your favorite records, you can sound exactly like them too.
DRAG, DROP, AND ROCK
We have designed simple interfaces that refocus energy on playing something cool. There’s no need to fumble with mic selection or placement, each amplifier has been tuned to sound exactly like the records that employed them.
CONSTANTLY EVOLVING AND GETTING BETTER
With an inexpensive subscription you gain complete access to all of our products, including future releases. It’s the best way to take full advantage of our technology as the application becomes more valuable over time. We’re continuing to track down great pieces of vintage gear so you’re going to want to be plugged in and ready. The history of rock n’ roll sound is at your fingertips.

So from the above, I gather that it’s subscription or a la carte - am I right? Anyone have experience with this app?
$49.99 subscription is problematic.
Sure, but I think you can buy things separately, if wanted. Doesn’t look like it’s forcing it on you. Might give it a spin...
How’s the quality?. And pricing?.

Can’t find info on the exact pricing. The iAP prices seem very reasonable for single effects, but it’s not too clear. Will download and check it out.
Updated with au and downgraded with a subscription?
I opened it and played with it just a bit. From what I see, you DO NOT have to pay a subscription. You can buy amps, cabs, effects separately and they seem reasonably priced. The basic included/free amp seems ok, a bit harsh with gain, but has a good clean sound. Gotta mess with it more... The amps for purchase may be better.
Not too crazy about the app’s name. Keep wanting to puta “t” and “r” in front of it...
ampstamp
trampstamp 🙃
Will give it a go anyway...
I'm so happy with TH-U so I feel there's nothing to gain even trying this one. I have most of Nembrinis which I bought before TH-U and I hardly ever use them. If somebody tells me this is better than TH-U I will give it a try.
How do I put this kindly..... No.
This app has been around for how many years? 5? I don’t remember anyone talking about it, and after 10 minutes I can see why. Never mind the subscription or the barebones free demo (one amp, one cab, no fx). On a scale of 1-10 the sound quality is about a 2. A thin muddy mess. Standalone only works at 44.1 and with terrible latency. Raising the sample rate causes a mute signal. It does work however as AUv3 and raising sample rate in the host improves latency. I suspected the cabinet emulation was bad, and indeed bypassing the cab and using an OwnHammer impulse response did improve the sound but only marginally. I have no reason to buy more components or subscribe based on the free app. Comparing this to th-u and Nembrini is a nonversation. Am I being too harsh?
No, probably not too harsh. I compared Ampstamp to FH-2. AmpStamp sounded weedy with just a little dirt.
I did the same comparison, not in the same league at all. FH-2 is much more beautiful and clear sounding, and it already comes with a great impulse response implementation instead of cab emulation which has always been a weak spot for any sim. Not to mention it’s one tone stack with fx included. If someone buys more ampstamp components and they sound good, I’d be surprised but glad to know it.
A more apt comparison for me was with the Modern Deluxe amp by Julien Faure. While MD and ampstamp both have that weedy quality you described, MD still sounds better and the controls are much more interesting and flexible. MD is also $1.99 total and already comes with its pedal fx suite. You can still tell it’s amateur hour when some of the pedals completely crap the amp out, but the actual amp is not bad. So my point is that it’s hilarious that ampstamp wants to charge more than 2 bucks and offers subscription, considering that we actually have legitimate sounding guitar apps and amp suite packages on the platform at a similar price point.
@JoyceRoadStudios - True. So much good stuff out there, this can be passed without regret or FOMO.
@JoyceRoadStudios I thought the same things. Seems like they're a little late to the party. Updating a 5 year old app to AUv3 cannot cut it relative to recent new implementations.
Who doesn’t love a good trampstamp. Lol. Redownloaded.
