Drum sequencer/sampler with per pattern kits or banks?
One thing I love about my Elektron boxes is the various ways you can have multiple kits in a bank of patterns, with each pattern having different samples/sounds. I can’t think of anything off the top of my head that exists like that on iOS. The best I can come up with would be multiple instances of Drambo in AUM or AB, but that sounds like a nightmare. I’d love if something like patterning could do it. Is there anything like that out there?

You can use different kits and sample banks with Korg Gadget using multiple gadgets by copy/pasting.
That’s a cool idea for a iOS drum sampler.
@brambos
@slicetwo how does Elektron handle this? Are there limits on how many drum kits that can be loaded per bank? What is the maximum amount of banks?
On the Octatrack, you can have 4 kits per bank of 16 patterns, with 16 total banks. The Digitakt can only have 128 patterns with different kits, but it pulls from a bank of 128 samples. The Digitone is the same, but it can pull from 8 sound banks of 256 sounds each.
I own a Digitakt but I don’t know what you mean.
on the Digitakt , and I believe it’s the standard elektron workflow, there’s no “kits”, just a pool of samples per project. That’s actually really off putting for me. You can’t change a whole “kit sound” in a pattern, you can’t separate the pattern info from the sounds, if that makes sense. Actually it’s the same in Drambo, where sequence data and sounds are tied together on a project (unless you have some sort of mega instrument that can switch sounds via presets). It’s funny how diverse workflows and preferences are, I find the Elektron sound managing very frustrating.
Patterning 2
My thoughts exactly. Sure, not AUv3, etc but it's an incredibly versatile tool.
It's been seamless to use EG Pulse and change kits using AUM presets.
Elastic Drums has independent sounds per pattern IIRC
Drum Computer has a folder for MIDI PROGRAMS so expect you can change kit using a program change message
I find myself coming back to BM3 for my most creative flow with drums. The developers got a lot of things right with BM3. It’s crazy because my first iPad (2nd generation) many moons ago existed solely for Beatmaker.
There are several options to DIY that in Drambo:
I believe the most “standard” way would be the first one, using presets.
When I think of kits I think of being able to switch all drum sounds at once while keeping sequence data. That way you can preview your rythm/sequence with different kits.
In addition to these Drambo options I’d add another that would work when using as auv3 and as standalone. You can load a Drambo instance that just holds sounds, be it sampler or synthesized. Then you use another Drambo instance, the daw sequencer or another midi app to trigger it. That way you could switch presets but keep the sequence data.
I don’t know if it’b de doable but it’d be nice to have an option in Drambo where you could separate sequence (midi) and module (sound) data when switching presets. I understand Drambo’s modular aspect makes this difficult.
As is said Digitakt is very much like Drambo in this aspect, but it’s easier and faster to get to sounds in Drambo.
You can do this easily with instrument racks. You can even put racks into racks and/or use a rack for each drum instrument in case you (like me) prefer to choose instruments separately but still be able to switch the whole kit with its default synthesized drum sounds and/or samples.

@tahiche You're right that it's not actual kits, which does bother me, too. But the idea still is that you can have different sounds for each pattern in one project.
@wim I tried making multiple patterns with different sounds in P2 but it wouldn't work.
The Drambo idea seems like the best contender, though still not quite the same. I'll give it a try and see if it does what I want. I really wish Elektron would release the DT/DN engines and sequencers on the iPad.
Drambo is, without a doubt, the closest to Elektron workflow.
I actually did a post about this.
Turn iPad into a hardware device. Elektron ipad?
Elektron hardware and workflow using the iPad for computing and storage. I’m a visionary!. Listen to me y’all!.
Grooverider gr-16 has an extremely similar workflow to elektron. You can have different drums per pattern with up to 16 slots. Also you can have different synths in those slots, and step parameter locking (I don't think it has step sample locking though). Also has a way to play up to 16 chops easily from a single sample slot, as well as chromatic playback.
I don't think you can have specific kits, but you can save a blank pattern with your kit setup and rename it to something like "707 kit" or whatever, and when you load it into a new pattern it will retain all sounds and parameters.
It can be auv3, but if you need it to change patterns in auv3 you might have to use a program change in your daw or whatever you host it in. I mostly use it standalone/ iaa, which has a song mode that can switch patterns automatically.
Best way I can describe it is think of it as part digitakt, part digitone, with the look of an electribe.
Also polyphonic, importable wavetables, ok multifx with automation, a small chaos pad simulator, no delays between pattern change, customizeable colors, it's a great one of you like elektron, but don't feel like building one in Drambo.
I'm so sorry I accidently double posted. I'm on my phone...
@tahiche Drambo is def. the closest thing, but again, it's just CLOSE. I know it's gonna sound crazy, but I find the Elektron boxes to be, overall, my most inspiring pieces of gear overall. There's something about the workflow that I really like.
@GeorgeL909 I've heard a lot about GR. I'll need to check it out.
I agree, the Digitakt is truly fun and inspiring. One thing I can’t enough of on the Digitakt is to move the sample start and endpoints in real-time. I believe you could do the same with Drambo and a hardware controller.
@GeorgeL909 I haven’t tried GR16, but heard great things. Is it very tweakable in real-time like the case I mentioned before?. I wish it had multi sample layers, I believe it doesn’t....
Holy crap. How did I never see the drumkit per pattern thing?!?!?!?! This changes the game for me. Thank you!!!
