AddStation as a Drum Synth

Three examples of using the VirSyn AddStation synth as a drum synth. One can go a lot further with effects and automation but I wanted it somewhat clean. It got a bit long so here are some time stamps if you just want to hear the drum sounds:
0:00 Example One
2:07 Example Two
3:52 Example Three

It sounds a bit like Fractal Bits I guess but a lot harder to get under control, fun though. :)

  • Like it, trippy IDM vibes.

Glad to hear that. I just read on the sales thread about using Yonac guitar synth on drums so I tried that on these. Holy carap, very cool indeed -- they sort of grew a mile up. We'll see if it can come out some actual work from it too.

These are some kickassrobotica drum sounds
You mention the Yonac guitar synth. I didnt realize that was AUv3 till today. Youve since added that to these sounds?

Yeah just playing around, they are not present in the video to be clear. AddStation, at least my patches, are very heavy and CPU spikes common so I got a bit frustrated because I got som real nice sounds going but can't play them .. argghh :D

Yes indeed! Addstation is right on the edge of my ipad's comfort zone ... get a bit excited, add one more block, and everything disintegrates into pops and crackles. Aaaargh! Huge CPU spikes - particularly tangling up with graphics on the screen.

BUT Addstation is just wonderful running stand-alone on the M1 macbooks ... just keeps on going ... endless depth. One of the best synths I've encountered on any platform.

Yeah it's a favorite for sure. Strange enough: an other big favorite is FRMS but that one is even worse CPU hog than AddStation. Why do I have to love the stuff I can't really use? :)

Would be very cool if you had a set of drum-like patches you could sell to VirSyn for inclusion in their next update.

Just in case you don’t know: under settings there’s a slider with which you can reduce the available voices in FRMS. It helps a bit.

  • Good. Sounds a bit like a soma pulsar.

  • Oh, and very cool sounds.

There are already 70 (I think) of my presets included, if you didn't know :). Those were a gift to this community and VirSyn included them in one of the latest updates. I don't think they buy presets but I might do a pack and sell cheap privately. We'll see.

Thanks, I am familiar with it and yes it helps, a bit. I have done a lot of patches for FRMS and they might be released this summer, they're so busy so we'll see. Thanks for the "Oh, and very cool sounds" remark, well appreciated :)

Really? Developers don’t pay for third-party patches they include in their apps?

Some do, I have not asked Harry at VirSyn and they don't have any IAP so that's why I'm assuming they don't, but, that's all it is: an assumption. I'm kinda happy/proud they wanted to include my pack as I'm fairly fresh on all this.
