Slow Rockish Tune

edited April 2014 in General App Discussion

My first posted song here and on SoundCloud. Dern, that took several attempts to get it uploaded. My other songs are on SoundClick if you can call them songs :-).

Apps used were AudioBus, ChordBot, Cubasis, Auria, Bias, Jamup Pro, GarageBand, several guitars, and BIAB for the PC.

Keep in mind that I am old and my ear doctor told me that my hearing is shot due to 34 years of industrial noise along with a bit of too loud music. Perfect hearing is 20Hz/20KHz but I am only able to hear 80Hz/6KHz. So the mix is probably way off due to my hearing impairment. The lack of musicmanship cannot be blamed on anything but talentlessness.

Drinking a tad so will probably regret this tomorrow :-) . Thanks for listening. Here is the link:

  • Regret nothing @Keebo. Well written, soulful execution. There was a section where the lead seemed to drop out, though that may have been purposeful. It's difficult to hold the listener's interest through 5 + minutes in an all instrumental. Nice job. I thought for sure you were going to add a harmony part at the build before the end. Enjoyed it.

  • Thanks, @Ben for listening to the whole long ass tune. I didn't realize it was so long until you mentioned it and that 5:13 glaring at me after posting.

I generally write intro/verse/verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/solo/verse/chorus/outro because I'm old fashioned. The drop out was during the bridge. I too had harmonies in mind at the end but in practice they became a bit muddy.

Again, thanks for taking 5 minutes out of your time to listen and share your thoughts.

  • I really enjoyed that, @Keebo. Thanks for posting. I wish I had your musicianship. Well done! :D

Before listening and based on your warning, I expected your mix would be too bright, due to you overcompensating for upper frequency hearing attenuation. That's not the case. Interesting. My hearing's deteriorating with age and I'm paranoid about pushing the highs too much!

  • It could be included as Quadrophenia Bonus Track!

I'd prefer drum sound a little bit hard.

  • Music is about belief in what you do so don't take a negative slant to it. Reading your intro almost made me not want to listen........ nevertheless keep on rocking. For me the first three minutes are crucial so I'll say get to the punch line quickly and then embellish. Why not try a three and a half minutes mix and see what you get?. One is never too old to make music. Vintage wine and all that. Cheers

  • I like it

  • I enjoyed it. I didn't find it too long at all, there was enough variation to sustain my interest. Not having a severely challenged attention span helps too, I guess. The mix is a little muddy, you could do with separating different instruments into their own frequency ranges so that they don't fight for bandwidth. That might be where not hearing above 6kHz could pose a challenge, but you can always enlist a younger or less abused set of ears to help with the mixing. Stereo placement and selective reverb also helps separate parts in a mix. Nice tune though.

  • Sounds great! Like it much! Keep doing the awesome work!
