iPad Stand Setups?
Looking at a midi controller (Arturia MK2 61). Unfortunately, no music stand. How do you deal with creating a place for your trusty iPad?

I use a simple A1 Stand by Lamicall, its a stainless steel stand for the iPad, about 6-7 inches high, and has an adjustable arm that holds at any angle. It’s high enough for my midi controllers, and great to setup anywhere. I actually just measured it, it’s approximately 6inches high, and you can get anywhere from 1 to 4 inches of clearance, underneath, depending on arm angle. I just set my iPad on there and a controller on a table right in front.
I used one of those gas powered, cantilevered arms with a vesa adapter and then had a K400r keyboard hooked up to it. Thing with that is that, yes you can flip it into Portrait mode etc but unless you have the arm fixed into the centre of your desk then you can't really use the touchscreen by manipulating the arm into a comfortable position in relation to your armchair/evil genius gadget holder. There was lots to love about it but now I just have it in front of me in a £10 case. Eventually, the arm will hold a monitor. When I can be bothered. Which I can't. So it won't.
My iPad is on a Griffin stand - quite a solid weighty thing, doesn’t budge when I press the iPad screen. That all rests on a mac mini which gives it added height. In front of that is my midi controller (Alesis qx49) - the iPad sits well clear of it. All in all a happy enough arrangement.
Good old fashioned 19” rack....
How are they held on there, @AlmostAnonymous? Great idea. I'm looking at the rack on my desk speculatively. As we speak there are around 8 different projects going into that space.
It’s a 3u blank turned backward, so there’s a tiny lip. And magnets. The ones that hold the Smart Cover on are enough to hold it in place enough from sliding around. They’re in an mixer style case now for gigging so they’re pretty flat.
That pic is a vertical rack I used just to test some wiring and routing. If I were to keep them vertically, I’d put a magnetic strip on the blank tho. They both have audio interfaces, so the lightning ports are on the outside and cabling just runs through the outer edge of the rack.
Those are 2 minis and they are just a hair over 3u.
Very cool. Would the increased magnetism affect the drive in any noticeable way?
Na. Been using magnetic mounts in my cars forever for iPads and phones.
I wouldn’t be using rare earth or electromagnets, just the crappy stuff the flexible magnets you have on your fridge for the local pizza shop are made from. Just on the edge like a Smart Cover. Apple loves magnets, just look at the phone wallet, or how older iMac screens are held on.
You could get away with Velcro or something, but I don’t want stuff stuck to the back on my iPads. Particularly since one of them is also my “phone” and is always in and out of my back pocket. (That’s right Apple...I refuse to pay 1200+$ for a phone when I average 30min/month but a bazillion texts and emails where I can do it more efficiently on a 450$ mini......and at the rate you keep making phones larger but refuse to allow iPad versions apps on it......)
I use this, if you need the iPad to not have raise too far off the table etc:

Inexpensive, stable, and adjustable.
I bought this foldable and adjustable dead cheap laptop stand. It’s offered on amazon under several Chinese brand names and it was just about 6€. I do like the lower angle but it could be also adjusted to be more steep. It is actually quite stable - more than it looks like. I like that it does not block the swipe up. It can fold and it’s aluminium and therefore very light and portable. That is important to me as I often go out into nature to make music. I’m using a camping desk and chair, several power banks.

But I’m thinking about building something like this. A trunk that can house all my gear but is foldable.
